Swing top half liter growler fill shared with the amazing Seattle crew (thanks again!). It pours amber-copper with some haze and thin off white head. The aroma has a nice load of cedar and full up spices running right up to a salty note along with malt graininess and a sense of dark fruitiness. The taste is sweet, paper, some apples, pears and spice and thin moving into full up cedar spiciness. Very interesting for sure. I hope they’re able to try another Gruit, this one didn’t really do it for me.

I thought I knew what to expect, having had the "subtle" cedar in the Humidor IPA previously. Subtle meaning the dominating characteristic. Not that I minded. That beer was awesome. This one is an odd duck, which is both good and bad. It started out odd, and grew on me. Aroma of cedar, with a sweet fruity twang to it that I did not expect. The flavor is a little tart as well, which both clashes with and alternately compliments the cedar. This was "a little wild" right out of the gate, and that was last year when it was brewed. Wish I could have got a fresher batch, but either way, it's unique and worth trying.
