Dubbel is a beer style developed by Belgian Trappists in the Middle Ages, part of a naming convention that also includes the lighter single and stronger trippel. All well and good, you say, but what's this “Nommo” business? Well, the Nommo are ancestral spirits worshipped by the Dogon tribe of the West African nation of Mali. The name is derived from a Dogon word meaning “to make one drink.” No, really. Nommo usually described as amphibious, hermaphroditic, fish-like creatures, were created by the sky god Amma, who caused them to multiply by splitting them into doubled sets of twins. Seeing a trend here? Maybe it's farfetched, but we think the story of the Nommo makes this whole enterprise a little more fun and interesting.

Comes out of the tap a dark translucent amber with a fairly thick pale golden tan head. Fruity aroma has hints of butterscotch and malt. Rich flavor has malty, woody, fruity and subtle caramel and butterscotch notes, a little sweetness and a little hoppy bitterness. Smooth, firm texture has a good amount of fizz and jazz. Gotta love the story behind the name. Do do try it!

It pours a hazy and thick copper and brown with a thick and foamy light-tan head and some surrounding lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, fragrant hops, citrus, raisins, plums, dates, brown sugar, molasses, and cinnamon and other spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and somewhat rich. Flavors of caramel malts, apple pie, hops, orange and citrus, raisins and dates, brown sugar and molasses, and cinnamon and other spices. Excellent .. tastes like a good apple pie..

Sampled from magnum bottle. Pours clear dark brown with a cream off-white head. Licorice, perfume aroma. Prominent dubbel flavor with notable spiciness. Medium-full body with good dry finish and high carbonation. A bit zesty with the gas. Interesting beer - certainly made for the magnum - not a six pack.

Aromas of dark fruits, licorice, and sweet malts, dark brown/ black body with a thick cap. Flavor leans towards anise, and raisins, not too much of the usual sweetness, even with the slight hint of molasses. I was kinda let down by this one, i dont care for anise, there wasnt much molasses or regular dubbel flavors, my least favorite (by far) for a Smokestack oh well maybe it will work for you.
