Turbodog is the inspiration for this robust dark ale. It is brewed with generous amounts of pale, caramel, and chocolate malts and Willamette hops. Whole natural vanilla beans are added during the aging process. This combination provides a rich body and color with chocolate, vanilla and toffee-like flavor. 25 years ago Abita Brewing was founded on a pristine artesian aquifer north of New Orleans. For a quarter of a century, Abita has proudly brewed full-flavored ales and lagers. We thank our loyal customers for their support and pledge to continue the tradition of brewing excellence.

Dark, muddy looking brown with a small dark head. Vanilla aroma was nice along with an earthy malt. A bit thin - far thinner that I imagined - to the pallette and a weak caramel-malt-toffee flavor. Lacking a robust quality.

I like the vanilla aspect of the flavor, and even the aroma (it seemed a bit artificial at first but got nicer as it opened up) but this beer was a bit of a letdown with it's thin, almost watery feel, and lack of any kind of finish or presence really except for the vanilla flavor. i love a good vanilla beer...this seems like a chick brew, not bad but definitely nothing special.

    22oz bottle -

Abita should be very proud of this product. It's very easy to create a trainwreck when making an American Strong, but what's produced is almost like a porter with a lot of vanilla in it.

Aroma is mild vanilla (almost like smelling melted vanilla ice cream), woody, some toffee syrup and a touch of roast. Flavor has some major vanilla notes, but it's a bit too much like imitation vanilla (think synthetic Vanillan). There's also a good bit of chocolate/toffee, caramel and coffee. But the vanilla is what ties it all together. Good beer. Wish it had a richer flavor w/o the overly fake flavor.

With Abita, finding that "it is what it is" with them. This one worked, but still nothing special. I was thinking it was a dobblebock when sampling, so wasn't focusing on a double brown ale. Still seemed a little wheaty to me. Only had a few sips of the regular Turbo Dog, so can't make the comparison to that...though I'm sure I will sample that soon. Not sure if the Vanilla makes this better or not, but the balance is ok and not too sweet. Don't think I would get this again...ok to try though.

Nice inexpensive beer from Abita that I picked up the other day. Very surprised by how tasty it was. Dark reddish brown. Full fluffy off white head. Taste is nutty, sweet, vanilla-y and very rich. Aroma is about the same. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy and very filling.

Bottled shared @Bearden Beer Market tasting: Clear darker brown pour, cream-colored head, nice lacing. Sweet aromas with the vanilla, toasted marshmallows, light cocoa, root beer and cream soda, slight nuts and very slight brininess. Taste is also sweet forward, spicy sweet, roasted vanilla and marshmallows, again some chocolate, some nuttiness, a touch of peanuts-in-your-CocaCola to it. SUPER easy to drink. Tasty critter this one is.

A nice anniversary beer from Abita, the body adark brown with a big thick cap that leaves some lace. While sampling i got the vague impression of a cream soda and vanilla ice cream float, the flavor was the same but with some chocolate notes. Overall i thought it would be a little more aggresive than it was, but its still a decent beer.

The presentation is the high point of this beer. And brown colored beer with a big frothy, egg shell colored head that rises robustly and stays around awhile. A thick ringlet and film are what is left. the aroma and tasting profile are weak. There's some caramel. Some vanilla. A light bodied beer. I'd want something bolder.

Malty aroma has a note of caramel plus hints of vanilla and unsweet chocolate. It pours a barely translucent chocolate brown with a fairly thick light tan head that leaves some good lacing. Mouth filling flavor has a malty core plus notes of caramel and chocolate and hints of wood, vanilla and toffee. Smooth, heavy-bodied texture has a good fizz that imparts a long-lasting tingle to the finish.

Gift from Dan @ Steins, thank you sir! you and your store rocks!! .. . Pours a deep brown, medium foam, good solid lacing .. . getting some light vanilla, cooking chocolate, bark, nuts, and some light molasses roast .. . extremely smooth and sits well on the palate, not overdone- extremely well balanced .. . probably not what you would expect from a beer boasting an anniversary tag or the double vanilla tag but for a beer coming out of LA from Abita- very enjoyable! .. . . why can dad stand at the breakfast table and i never get to wear my cape??
