If you are going to try this ale I suggest you buy two bottles. If you don't your going to be mad when this black gold goes empty on you. Lubrication is a good name for it because it pours like oil.

Aroma is - ZOMG, what a great aroma, strong, oily, smoky, with notes of molasses, hops and licorice plus a hint of miso. It pours an opaque warm sable with a thick, fine-bubbled and rather persistent light tan head that leaves some generous lacing. Satisfying flavor has a hop-bitter overtone plus notes of roast malt, licorice and molasses. Texture is smooth, a teeny bit watery, fairly fizzy and a little dusty. Overall, a worthy brew.

Just got a growler of this locally. I sampled the Tramp Stamp at the same time, but decided this would be a better beer to drink this weekend. It had tons of light brown foam, with a very dark liquid. Plenty hoppy, but with a nice citrus aroma and flavor on top of a bitter chocolate finish. Definitely not over hopped, which is a good thing.

pours wuite dark, aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, orange and pine. flavor the same...interesting balance between dark malt and orangle peel, especially with the feel being almost distractingly light. a good beer, slightly overpriced here. would be very good if not for the thin feel.

Found this to be sort of like a black IPA, but not as hoppy. Thinner than what the appearance seems. Balance of chocolate malt and hops is decent. Liking all of the Clown Shoes so far...and glad to see them starting to distribute the 12 oz. 4-packs.

Aromas and flavor feature roasted malts, and a dry bitter coffee, some citrus hops kick in on the backside of the aftertaste. Nice thick cap that leaves some good lace. Overall another good offering from Ipswich.

Clown Shoes covers a few American Black Ales. And it becomes hard to tell one from another. Nice ebony blackness with light tan, frothy head on this one. Profile pretty simple in a light body. Roasted malt, bitter coffee and citric hops. I have grown to love the style so I have no oppositional thoughts to this one.
