It started as chance, a sandwich shop encounter between a band and a fan. It ended as the Clutch Collaboration. This pleasing, two-part potion was brewed with chocolate and black malts for a rich and roasty overtone, then fused with a dry, substratum of sour for a bold and audacious flavor. Black as night, this beer is blended at 80% stout, 20% dark sour wood beer for a collaboration that begins with a sour edge and finishes with a big, dark malt character, lingering, sweet on your palate. The two flavors come as raucous and riotous as the Maryland band and their Fort Collins fans, getting loud and making beer, together.

Very surprised how mild the sour tones are in this, after trying other LOF series beers I was expecting a face sucker, this is not that, very nice light sour notes that really perk up the flavor, nicely done!

Sampled from bottle. Pours opaque black-brown with a lasting tan head. Great lacing. Tastes like a strong 1554 with some sour notes. How can this be 9%?! Gotta try it!

22oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a smallish light tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is some roasted chocolate malts, leather and tart, sour dark fruits.

The flavor is some roasted earthy malts and molasses with a good amount of tart fruity sourness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice mellow dark fruit sour with a bit of roast.

Mahogany black-brown pour with an off-white head leaving streams of lacing. Very mild sour aroma, ripe fruits, very slight apple cider vinegar, hint of tobacco and leather, molasses. Taste is also mild, very slight sourness, more of the ripe fruits sweetness along with some molasses, very slight smoke and leather. Very nice blended ale. Paired it with an Asian garlic and ginger grilled chicken salad and it was damn near perfect with that.

Sampled on 11/6/2011. This American Strong Ale/Wild Ale pours an eclipse black color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized tan rocky foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, cofffe/toffee and some wood. A medium bodied American Strong Wild Ale (how’s that for a NEW beer category?). The malts are strongly roasty, chocolate, dark fruit, raisins and some cherry. A touch tart and some wood. Decent carbonation. Nice balance of flavors, with no one flavor standing out over any of the others. Reminds me of a sour porter, yet another new beer category, sorry, and really balances between the two styles so that neither one dominates. Interesting beer, fairly easy drinking. Hides the alcohol very well. Touch of coffee at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with some tartness.

Comes out of the tap a deep, warm sable with a thick, fine-bubbled tan head that leaves some good lacing. Smoky aroma has chocolate, coffee and sour apple tones. Flavor nicely mixes mocha with sour apple and has smoky, nutty, molasses and licorice notes. Full-bodied, lively texture leaves a fizzy finish with smoky and sour apple flavors.

A strange medley of roasted malts and mild coffee with citrus fruits, raisins, licorice and a wild tangy twang. A jumbled attempt at whoknowswhat, and it fell well short of my expectations.

had Kick first, then clutch. surprised to learn after the fact that this is indeed only 20% sour ale, and 80% stout, which is pretty much what it tastes like. they do the dark roasty goodness well, especially in the aroma, but i will admit i was hoping for a more sour & funky brew. kick advertised on the bottle that only 25% was wood aged, but this only said dark sour, and the sour definitely was taking the back seat. just hints of fruit, oak, and wild yeast in the arom and a touch more on the back end of the flavor. a good beer, not quite as advertised, and a tad expensive for a "good" kida sour stout.

It pours an almost pure black with a fairly thin light-tan head and some lacing. An aroma of roasted malts, coffee, toffee, oats, citrus and orange, raisins, bitterness, and choice spices. The mouthfeel is simple and well-bodied. Flavors of roasted malts, light hops, citrus blend, light toffee, oats, some bitterness and spices. Excellent blend!

Remember that postcard Grandpa sent us from Florida of that Alligator biting that woman's bottom? That's right, we all thought it was hilarious. But, it turns out we were wrong. That alligator was sexually harassing that woman..
