St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat: St. Bridget’s Porter. St. Bridget’s is a smooth and elegant brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget’s is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness. This beer is a “must have” beer for all porter lovers.

Color is dark brown with some reddish hues. Small quickly disappearing head. Sweet smelling with chocolate/carob, coffee and roasted malt aromas. Roasted malt dominates the flavor. The chocolate/carob and coffee aromas are very subdued on the palette, which is a bit of a disappointment. A bit thin for a porter. Still a tasty brew, but I was expecting more.

A very decent porter with quite a nice color. Nice head, although the lacing was a bit skant. Flavor was king in this one with the toffee/coffee/chocolate leading the way.

Bottled on 1/6/09: This is very malty. On the sweeter side for a porter. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, and caramel malts. Not too much hops. Reminds me sort of like a roasty chocolate Indian Brown Ale. Has a dark dark brown, near black appearance. Not one of my favorite porters, but a solid overall brew.

Another really incredible beer from the brewers at Great Divide. As I was drinking this, do they really make a bad beer? I’d sure love to keep drinking their stuff and find out.

This pours out a rich dark brown color, nearly black with some garnet edges and a thick tan head. Aroma is an explosion of chocolate, caramel, dark fruits with some light coffee and smoke. Flavor really brings the mocha notes, with strong choco-coffee goodness. Didn’t really hit me with detectable hops, but the lingering bitterness reminded me of eating dark chocolate (maybe that was the hops). This is definitely a repeat.

Not a huge porter fan but this bear had a nice flavor and beautiful color with a sweet chocolate taste. There was a slight weird aftertaste that I cannot quite place but it is a good beer for dinner

Comes out of the tap a nearly opaque reddish sable with a decent head. Rich aroma is smoky with nutty and cinnamon hints and an undertone of chocolate. Mouth-filling flavor is chocolaty and smoky; it has nutty, spicy and malt hints, as well as a touch of hop bitterness. Lively and smooth texture leaves a tingly, slightly sweet, mocha aftertaste.

I like this Standard Porter. Nothing to special but flavorful and easy to drink. Pours brown with some tan head. Smells roasty with some coffee. As with all GD beers Carbonation is nice and a bitter but smooth finish. Flavor is standard Porter... Roast tones with a bit of sweetness...

Pretty good offering poured black with small head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and a hint of pipe tobacco. The flavor was on the sweet side but quite pleasent. It would pair well with nuts and perhaps a strong cheese. Give it a go.

A black body that when light passes an amber hue shows, almost no head or lace to speak of. Aroma of old coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. Initial taste of bitter coffee with light chocolate tones. A little on the thin side, this was an o.k. porter thats worth a try but i prefer something a bit more robust.

This is a light porter with hoppy Irish bite. It has a great coffee aroma and a taste of roasted grain. The shortcomings of this beer include a light body and a lack of depth. It almost reminds me of a schwarzbier. A pretty good porter for the price, though. Perfect for St. Patrick’s day. If you are looking for a better porter, try Fuller’s instead.
