Notes of dark fruits raisins and figs, molasses and dark maple syrup. Plum and toffee are foremost with a hint of chocolate. True to the Doppelbock style, Shambock is a little sweet, higher alcohol (6.8% ABV) with a minimal hop profile. Like a good lager, Shambock is very drinkable, impeccably clean and crisp in finish. Pours a creamy mocha head, which is dense in texture with a little lacing. 2009-2012 Draught Version: 6.8% 2014 Bottled Version: 5.8%

A decent alternative to the plethora of green beers that one sees around St. Patrick’s Day. Railway City is better known for their ales than their lagers so this one will be a new one for me from them. It pours a deep mahogany colour, murky, with a this light brown head. Lots of dark fruit and roasted notes in the aroma, with hints of bread, yeast, and maple syrup. The flavour is very sweet as the maple syrup really shines over all the other flavours.

Pours a large frothy beige head and has a dark amber colour with ruby highlights. Leaves sticky lace. Aromas of malts, cereals, no bitterness really, maybe a tad in the finish. Light flavours of caramel malts, and quite faint citrusy notes. Smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel, real easy going down. Lively carbonation.

Bomber from the LCBO. Pours a brown colour with mahogany highlights. The head is beige, creamy, with good retention but not much lacing. Beautiful roasted malt nose with some light sweetness from the maple syrup. Nutty notes as well and coffee. Lots of this reflects in the taste, but harder to detect the maple, and alcohol is felt. The roasted malts are well-blended with some fruitiness. Pretty interesting brew, but would be hard to drink more than one of these (sweetness not helping).

I tried this beer on draught on March 9, 2012 at "c'est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer was poured a translucent dark burgundy colour with a thin white ring of a head. Aroma was sweet fruits like plums with hints of caramel, molasses, and grains. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is sweet and fruity...almost fruity enough to be a turnoff. Flavour has similarities to their Dragonberry pilsner. It's certainly a sham if you ask me.
