Our newest addition to the Wellington Brewery lineup is our Silver Wheat Ale in honour of our 25th anniversary. Wellington Brewery’s new Silver Wheat is a crisp, thirst quenching ale with malted wheat and German noble hops. Here are some tasting notes and food pairings: COLOR: golden yellow, straw Flavour: light on palate with a subtle European hop finish and fruit and citrus notes Alcohol Volume: 4% Food Pairings: Since filtered wheat beers are known as thirst quenchers, spicy hot foods such as blackened redfish, vindaloo curries and spicy Thai foods are all excellent pairings. Silver Wheat is also excellent with cheeses such as Edam and egg based dishes such as Quiche Lorraine and omelettes. AWARDS Canadian Brewing Awards 2010 Silver (Wheat Beer – North American Style)

This beer is in the running for the worst American Wheat style I have tried. It just isn’t that good. It is a pale straw colour with a weak white head. Aroma is metallic in nature, some weak wheat and barley notes, and I’ve yet to notice a hop. Flavour is a hit mess of off-flavours that are inconsistent with wheat beers.

Can: Finally got around to reviewing this one. Had it on tap a few times and was unimpressed so I hung off commenting, Recently I grabbed a few fresh cans at the brewery when at a one off tasting and just cracked them yesterday after mowing the lawn in 32deg.C weather. Yes they bust thirst like an ice bath but beyond that it had enough wheat character to be very flavorful as well. Poured a clear light goad with a bodacious puffy white cap that lasts. Medium carbonation, clean dry character. Flavor has a big dose of dry biscuity malts and enough hops to balance, unapologetically uncomplicated with a clean, crisp dry wheaty finish. Changed my attitude with this beer – if you are going to drink lite beer drink this one – big flavor and light dry character.

Came in the OCB Discovery Pack 9 at the LCBO, for summer 2011. Also noticed how it came in a 4-pack (also can) at the LCBO. I did see the words "light beer" hidden at the bottom of the can, and I kind of wondered how it would do with "wheat ale". Pours a clean light golden-yellow colour with a big white head that had decent retention and lacing all around. Grainy nose with some sweetness, kind of fruity with notes of oranges. All of this, pretty mild of course. Not sure what to make of the taste though. Not really wheaty, but still grainy, and has some type of hoppy bitterness (which I am not sure works). Not horrible, but some things are not working together. Still, better than I expected for a light beer.

This is a light beer, make no mistake about it. Why it's not marketed that way is beyond comprehension. It pours a nice pale yellow colour, lots of haze, and a frothy white cap. cereal malt and wheat make up the aroma while the flavour was reminiscent of dishwater.

The beer poured a slightly hazy gold colour with a thin white ring. The aroma was grainy malt...not very wheat like. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour has a little hint of wheat but aside from that tastes like most Canadian pale lagers....i.e. not very good. I hate to say it, but the Trailhead Lager tastes better.
