The beer pours a clear mahogany color, plenty of effervescence, and is topped by a creamy light tan colored cap. Lacing is minimal. The aroma is caramel, bread, roasted malt, light citrus, and spicy hops. Mouthfeel is average. Flavor is lightly sweet to start with hints of caramel and bread, and finishes with a mild bitter hop kick

Pours deep translucent brown with a beautiful creamy head. Excellent lacing on the glass. Roasted malt aroma. Rich roasty malt flavor up front, with some coffee notes, and a hint of smoke.

Oh boy... forgot about this one ! 2010 edition. Pours a hazy copper colour with lots of sediments floating around. The off-white head is creamy, frothy, long-lasting and has foamy lace. Mild malt nose with hints of nuts. Taste of malts (caramel, roasted) with some nutty and coffee notes in the finish. Pretty decent for its age. Hope I can re-try one day, with a fresh one.

Poured a deep brown with a thick off white head. The aroma has pepper hints but is mainly sweet. The flavor is heavy on the malts, what stands out is the cocoa undertone. Overall I am pleased with the beer and will buy it next season.

Pours a amber, copper, brown in color with a nice khaki colored head. The aroma is caramel, milk chocolate and bread, overall a really great aroma. The taste is much like the aroma consisting of chocolate, bitterness, subtle roastiness, caramel, sweetness that's rich and has a nice carbonation. Quite a nice brown ale, it has wonderful chocolate taste without the coffee harshness.

Deep dark amber pour with a medium sized off white head. Plenty of lace left on the glass. Appearance is the best quality of this beer. Like most Sierra Nevada brews this has plenty of hops and I think it hinders the flavor from being better. Good but not great.

Admittedly I've only tried 2 of these thus far, have been underwhelmed. Reminds me of a Newcastle of which I am not a fan at all. An oddly sweet and nutty aroma with a bauxite charateristic. Moderate, thin brown appearance with a single-finger head. Very watery to the pallette - texture-wise comparable to any given mass-produced macrobrew. Slightly malty and nutty flavor that flattens at the finish. I'm typically a SN fan and had high anticipation for this one, but it just didn't live up to my expectations... I still have 4 more in the 6er I bought, so I'll re-rate if warranted.

Bottled@SBWF2010. Slightly hazy brown colour, small white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, some rye as well as some mild roasty notes. Flavour is nutty, roasted malts, some caramel and chocolate.

A nice clear brown pour with a medium sized tan coloured head. Aroma consists of weeak chocolate malt, floral hops, and some spices. The flavour is more of the same with the chocolate being very mild and the bitter finish being 'just right' for my palate.

Very well should be a bench mark as to what a craft brown ale is capable of being. Session potential galore and extremely satisfying all around. Medium bodied, robust and solid in all aspects. One of the best 12 packs to welcome in the Autumn season with.
