Railway City Brewing Company has combined forces with London’s Fire Roasted Coffee Company to develop our newest seasonal beer, “Mocha Porter”. First conceived at the recent London Food & Wine Show, our friends at the London Fire Roasted Coffee Company joined us to brew our latest recipe featuring some of their freshly roasted coffee. Fire Roasted Coffee is recognized as one of Canada’s finest Specialty Coffee Roasters. The coffee beans that were roasted and brewed in the Mocha Porter are Fair Trade Certified Coffee, something Fire Roasted strongly believe and support.

    Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

Growler from the brewery, Pours a clear dark brown ale with ruby highlights into the tulip, Massive coffee colored cap last well and laces. Aroma has some roast and coffee notes no hint of hops, and some funky green beer odors. Mouth feel and body are thinner than one expects in this style (perhaps some flaked barley would bulk up the body) . Flavor is rather two dimensional with coffee, roast malt and some subtle sweetness dominating. Fast finish is bitter from coffee but tagging along are some green beer tastes. This has good potential as a coffee porter but it is unfinished....the funky green beer tastes indicate not enough conditioning time.
