JavaHead Stout, first released as Scratch 15, contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA. This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout. After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans - akin to a French press - intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

Bottle for mwiscount's BABE package. Dark brown pour, nice and heavy, tight short beige head, plenty of lacing. Rich aromas and flavors of sweet espresso, molasses, Hershey's chocolate syrup, more java as it warms. ME and my wife shared and both loved it. Thank you Melanie for this jewel - I finally got around to finding a good time to share it!

Not a bad beer, but not anywhere near the top coffee stouts. A mild, almost sour citrus nose, pours deep brown with a nice head, flavor is stout, not as much coffee as i was looking for, more like an oatmeal stout overall.

mwiscount sent this to Hannah in their exchange, and she also shared one with me! Black with a nice tan ring. I immediately smelled the promising char with a hint of sweetness. Smoke & cocoa flavor is just a touch acidic, not unpleasantly so, so there's a depth of coffee flavor throughout. Really pleased with this one. UPDATE: On the pour I got a delicious, unremembered aroma of pineapple. The flavor is also yeastier than I recall, in a breadish way, and more coffee acidic. The latter is not so welcome, but not enough to subtract flavor points at this time.

Sampled from bottle courtesy of mwiscount (thanks!!!). The enticing aroma is quite chocolatey with citrus topnotes, interesting combination. The flavor, delicious. What a tasty stout! Chocolate, coffee and hops playing together nicely. Somehow manages both rich and refreshing. Smooth full body, like an oatmeal stout, easy drinking all the way. The 7.5% is well hidden. LOVED it!

This is in my top five stouts picks! Love to buy this beer when visiting Hershey, PA. I also picked up the Javahead Blend coffee beans roasted by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA during my trip to Troeg's Brewery. This beer tastes like roasted cocoa which has a whole new meaning when you are drinking this beer in Hershey, the Sweetest Place on Earth! My first sip tonight was like going home. If you have not tasted this beer and can't get it where you live, BeerMail me and I will send you some Javahead to enjoy! If you love espresso stouts, you will love this brew. Cheers! ;)

Of all of the Troeg's products that I have tried I liked this the best. The deep, dark coloring and thick head were very attractive. There was an enjoyable coffee-like aroma of this one. The taste was that of a good, strong cup of coffee with a hint of coccoa as well. This would be an outstanding winter brew!

Pours a very dark brown with a small bubbly tan head. Leaves very little lacing. Don’t get much coffee in the aroma. More like dark chocolate and dark fruit. Burnt malt, coffee and a bitter finish. Smooth but expected it to be thicker.

Had a couple bottles of this and wasn't overly impressed. Dark roast malt and strong coffee in the aroma, but the flavors are more muted and flat. Decent pour with a watery mouthfeel, too light for the style.

Off the tap at Troegs; rich, dark brown to black with a thin tan head, rich coffee aroma with some chocolate and caramel. Velvet to the pallette. Flavors match the aromas - very nice stout.

Pours dark tan .. big aroma of espresso and instant coffee with touches of bark and spoon .. slick mouthfeel, maybe too much .. . good brew but needs more depth .. ...You're thirty-three years old, you're supposed to be sexually active! ...You're not supposed to be fondling your uncle under the table
