From the cellar. Bottle received as a gift back in June 2014. Pours a black opaque color with a small dark tan head that leave a small ring on top of the beer. Aromas of bourbon, oak, chocolate and roasted malt. Oak and bourbon (more subdued than on the nose) lead the flavors followed by roasted malt with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Thick, chewy mouthfeel. Very balanced and delicious. Wish I had more.

The mouthfeel was just too harsh, not smooth and silky like other BB stouts and it was deffinitely a distraction for me. Made me wish it was barrel aged Doris instead. Otherwise it was still good Boris with nice oak and vanilla notes. Not a leader of the class but certainly not in the back either.

Barrel influence really nice in this one. Takes any rough edges of the regular Boris, already a great brew. Chocolate, vanilla, roast, dark fruit, raisins, bourbon. Balanced. Thick. Delicious.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter - jet black with a mocha head that doesn't stick around. The only flaw I detect is a less than welcoming aroma - not horrible by any stretch, but not as inviting as other BA stouts. This one is astringent on the nose. The tastes are out of this world, with loads and loads of chocolate, layered with a thick moutfeel and a punch of bourbon - vanilla, oak, and earthy undertones cut the chocolate and keep me coming back. I find this to be just tremendous. At its price point, it sits on shelves around here so I grab it when I can.

    1.
lacking hue and brightness; absorbing light without reflecting any of the rays composing it.
    2.
characterized by absence of light; enveloped in darkness: a black night.
    3.
Possessing notes of road tar and light whiffs of whiskey, an enjoyable libation.

22oz bottle. Pours am opaque black with a small tan head that quickly diminishes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is vinous chocolate malts, dark fruits (fig), some coffee and oats and some bitter bourbon.

The flavor is sweet vinous dark fruits with some chocolate and a bitter finish. The whiskey comes out throughout - accentuating the vinous fruits and making the bitter finish a bit medicinal. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, still a nice imperial stout, but the barrel aging detracts rather than adds for me. It's a lot more alcoholic and vinous and a bit medicinal, and it loses the coffee, fudge, and oat notes that were nice in the original.

Aroma is dominated by the smell of whisky from the barrel, which is unfortunate because it tends to drown out the good smoky and molasses stout aroma. There is a nice undertone of charred wood, though. It pours a nice oily opaque sable with a rather thick and fine-bubbled, if not too persistent, chocolaty tan head. Flavor has tones of molasses, quality roast coffee, unsweet chocolate and licorice, with a strong and almost overwhelming overtone of whisky - good whisky, but that tone could be a wee bit more subtle. Texture is silky smooth with a decent fizz and a nice bite from the whisky.

Bottle from Knightly. My Dad and I cracked this one after the BA 110K+OT Batch 2. Really glad to see we got this one here in FL. Black color with dark brown edges. Pours a thin head with just a few patches remaining on top. Strong whiskey aroma that tingles the senses a little along with dark chocolate, caramel, espresso. The aroma is bold and very nice. Smooth flavors; whiskey, oats, chocolate, vanilla, wood. Very good. Just barely edged out the BA 110K+OT Batch 2 as the better beer in my opinion and I didn’t expect that.

Pours out in an opaque black colour with a small pale brown head. Big aroma of oak, black chocolate, vanilla, almonds and burbt sugar. Full-bodied with rich notes of vanilla, oak, burnt malts, black chocolate, molasses and mild pepper. Chewy and rather oily mouthfeel. Long bittersweet finish of oak, vanilla, molasses and black chocolate.
