Historically, the 'steam donkey' was a steam powered winch invented in 1881. It was used mostly in logging operations until internal-combustion was invented. The steam donkey acquired its name from the animals they replaced. The rugged terrain of the West Coast made the steam donkey the work horse of the logging industry. Steam Donkey Lager is what we call our working beer, with a dash of West Coast history. Steam Donkey Lager is richly coloured with a full malty flavour and orangey sweetness that lends well to the smooth mouthfeel. The aromatic notes spiciness are the perfect end to a swig of our working beer, a truly refreshing experience. Our Working lager is fashioned after the traditional czech pilsner and is light straw to golden color and crystal clear. Hops are very prevalent usually with a spicy bitterness and or a spicy floral flavor and aroma, notably one of the defining characteristics of the Saaz hop. Smooth and crisp with a clean malty palate.

355 ml aluminum bottle poured into a pint glass. Clear golden yellow with a white head. Foam slowly fades to a thin cap, thin strings of lace. No overpowering smells, combination of bready malt and light grassy hops. Clean taste, fresh bready malt and slightly caramel sweetness balanced against some spicy hop bitterness. Good level of carbonation, medium body, smooth and easy to drink. Glad to see another small brewery making good beer.
