Iron Spike Blonde introduces itself with an antique gold colour accentuated with a generous white foam. Nose of honey, spicy, lemon zest and citric hops, some biscuit malt, a nice peach/tropical fruit profile as well. On the pallet the beer enters with a hint of sweet fruit upfront (peach, pear mostly), followed by lemon, some mild hops, and sweet grains. It has a floral aftertaste, similar to that of rose petals. Lots of pretty spider web lace left behind from the head, and good retention. Medium body with a sweet fruit finish, nicely balanced by moderate thoughtful hopping." 4.3 % alcohol by volume, IBU's 15.9 Food Pairings: Pasta, Pizza, Fajitas, Lasagna, Mussels, Peas, Salads, Salmon, Squid, Thai Food, Sweetbreads

Part of the Iron Spike series that put Railway City on the map. The appearance is a cloudy pale gold colour. The head is more of a thin white film than a full blown head. The aroma is very non-descript, but so it goes for most blonde ales. There is some buttery and grainy notes in the flavour, but they are balanced out by a weak hoppy presence.

473ml tallboy from LCBO. Pours a huge foamy off-white head and has a pale golden appearance. Dirty lacing. Good retention. Lively carbonation. Aromas of barley malts, grainy and grassy notes. Flavours lean more toward the grainy malt type, hints of corn, some grassy notes as well. Average mouthfeel. Not too bad.

My second proper blonde ale, not counting the over produced macro Export, both Molson's and Oland's, respectively. A very citrusy aroma eventually gives way to a grassy nose. Not sure what this style is supposed to look like, but i like what I am seeing in my glass, and I'm not even using the proper glassware. Body is very crisp, even when sampled out of the can, though when sampled that way, as opposed to glass, does leave a wee bit of film at the back of the mouth. Very enjoyable brew. Skoal!

Purchased by Lilihel in Kingston, Ontario. Brown 500ml bottle with a best before date on the side of the label, 09 May 2011. Pours a golden colour with a very slight amber hue and a big soapy head that lasts a very long time leaving a little lace. Notes of fresh apples aromas with hints of citrus and malt. Soap-tasting hops with some more apples and a little grain in the aftertaste. Gets pretty murky near the last pour, with lots of tiny sediments floating everywhere (almost looking like mildly unfiltered apple juice). A decent blond ale that is interesting in all aspect.

The beer poured a translucent red-hued golden colour with almost no head. A white ring and heavy effervescence persisted throughout. The aroma was milky sugar, grains, and floral hops. The flavour was grainy malt and some weak hoppy tones. An alright beer, but nothing spectacular.

Growler: Light clear gold with a rich white cap. Aroma: mild and subtle, cereals, light grassiness. Light on the palate, weak malts but the leafy hop resins come forward, fast slightly drying finish. Not my type of drink, too undefined, but properly made and clean tasting.
