Made in the German “Stein Bier” tradition, this smooth, robust dark lager is brewed with the addition of glowing hot granite to the kettle. The addition of these Hot Rocks results in a vigorous “super boil” of sorts that caramelizes the sugars in the wort lending toffee, smoky caramel flavors to the beer that wouldn’t present themselves in a normal boil. The color is a deep, ruby brown with streak of red and the aroma an incredibly inviting one of dark caramel, chocolate and toffee. The flavor is a robust dark lager with layer upon layer of caramel sweetness with just enough hopiness and malt to prevent it from being cloying. The finish is sweet with toffee and cocoa notes and a faint dryness. get on! come on tiger! .. . really excited about this one! have always wanted to try a stein beer .. . pours a murky brown .. light head, light-medium lacing .. . light molasses, bland caramel, and light light sweet smoke .. . pretty nice beer but just to thin .. . . Sometimes my girlfriend is so annoying, "Do you think I'm pretty?, Do I look fat?", Why doesn't she just answer me.

Pours a dark, semi-transparent cola brown with a very thick but not too persistent light tan head. The sample I got fizzed like nobody’s business, so you may want to have a towel handy. Malty aroma has a firm fruity note and just a hint of miso. Flavor has a malty core plus fruity and woody notes and just a touch of caramel. There also seems to be a dusty or dirty tone, perhaps from the rocks used to heat the wort. Smooth texture has good body and a fair amount of fizz.

It pours a dark and muddy brown with a fairly thick light head and a few stripes of lacing. An aroma of roasted and nutty caramel malts, peanut butter, light hops, orange, and some light cinnamon and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, thick and rich. Flavors of roasted caramel malts, peanuts, hops, citrus blend, bread and yeast, and cinnamon and spices. Excellent!

1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Very dark brown colour, big to moderate beige head. Moderate aroma of caramel and toasted brown bread, hints of dark dried fruits. Decent flavour, caramel and toasted brown bread again, a hint of fruit, moderate but sufficient hops in the finish. Well balanced and pleasant to drink.

smells bready, with kisses of chocolate, hops, coffee. smells young, but that goes away in the flavor, which finishes with a nice dry roasted malt character. overall, great for the style, a very sessionable ale. pretty good overall too.

Bottle from BOLTZ7555. Thanks Jason! Very dark brown pour with a nice fluffy tan head. The aroma shows grains, biscuity malt, some grass, overall is rather boring compared to the flavor. Flavors are roasty with a touch of cream settling on the palate. This has far more going on than I initially thought from the aroma. Caramel, toasted grains, a hint of chocolate. Refreshing and warming all in one. Pretty solid. I’m impressed.

A vigorous pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces an almost three-finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark amber, brown color that shows a clearish, bright cherry hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a full, malty, caramelized (very much so actually) note that is quite a bit more distinct than I was expecting. This has an almost fruity caramel not to it that sort of reminds me of something like cotton-candy or marshmallows. There is a backdrop of toasty, bread-crust like and biscuit leaning maltiness.
This has quite a spicy, herbal hop note to it along with a clean, biting bitterness. The malt, while distinct, is almost secondary to the hop character; this is quite a departure from the nose. The beer might be a bit too cold (the low to mid 40s), but when warmed it becomes more creamy in texture. This is still quite hoppy though, but that fruity-caramel / caramelized cotton candy note becomes more noticeable in the flavor. The beer almost has a sort of roasted character to it; it is a touch sharp, with a faint hint of roasted character, even a touch of coffee like notes, but not really roasted. This definitely has a toasted malt edge to it that picks up lots of biscuit character in the finish.
In the end this is quite malt focused, even if I can’t quite decide if the initial hop focus in the flavor was distracting or intriguing. This is quite a tasty beer and the unique notes, presumably from the stoning process, makes this that much more interesting to try.
