A very dark brown pour, topped with a creamy beige colored head. Lots of roasted malt notes in the aroma along with coffee, and vanilla. Very rich and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is full of rich tones like dark chocolate and coffee. Bitter aftertaste.

I missed this review from last winter season. Grabbed in the Winter '11 variety pack....which was my favorite of the sample. May be over-rating this based on readin other reviews (possibly rounding flavor and overall up to 8 instead of 7?). Found it drinkable though, well-balanced with decent chocolate malty/coffee flavor. I pretty much only buy MH now when their 12-pack seasonal varieties are on sale (about $12.99 here)...to sample out their new stuff...as they are pretty much economy beer for me. Will have to try this again next fall/winter to update the review.

Winter Sampler 12 pack, Ravell starts out decent enough but kinda fades away at the end. Aromas of burnt chocolate, a touch of coffee as well. Flavor starts like the aroma with a slight touch of vanilla making an appearance, but it fades quickly. Overall a barely above average brew.

Dark chestnut brown pour with a nose that is pure Cocoa Puff milk after 2 bowls. Body was a little lighter then I would have liked. It really seems to start with big aspirations and sputters out quick though.

I must say thanks to herbjones for sharing this with me. This pourse a clear, dark brown/red color. It's transparent, which hints of a light body. The aroma is of chocolate milk, or maybe the chocolate chips used for cookies. Then I tasted it & it went straight down hill from there... It's pretty thin & watery on the tongue with a slightly hoppy taste. It's good up front, but finishes poorly.

I have to admit that I am big Porter fan, I just recently discovered porters and I havent really found a bad one. The burnt chocolate and sour flavor was perfect and all around enjoyabe also perfect hop bite medium and soft, just the way it should be.

Sampled @ brewery. Almost black pour with a serious roasted malty aroma. No head at all. Smoked barley taste. They say they use vanilla beans from Madagaskar, but I didn't taste vanilla. Tasted like a decent Roasted Ported.

This is a very well made porter. It pours almost black, with a crimson red around the edges. Smells like burnt chocolate, and a healthy dose of vanilla. This is very smooth on the palate. Tastes like chocolate and vanilla intermingling. Complex, full bodied, and delicious. This is well worth your hard earned cash should you come across it.

Poured a dark crimson color with a tan head and some lacing. Coffe and chocolate aroma with tastes that were very similar to the aroma. Also a sweet aspect to the beer, possibly from the vanilla beans?
