A barley wine brewed with: water, malt (pils and caramunich), candy sugar, hops (nugget, cascade and centennial) and ale yeast. Big Worse is the long awaited big brother of the small test brew Big Bad Barley Wine. The idea behind Big Worse is still to make a simple yet heavy barley wine - just like it’s smaller brother. But this time both the alcohol and bitterness has been pumped up! Big Worse is both thick and sweet and is the perfect beer for desserts. Enjoy it now or keep it for many years. Best stored dark and at cellar temperature.

The first impression of the aroma is the yeast, seems to resemble a belgian dubbel. The obvious aromas are raisins, brandied apricots, christmas cake, light underripe plum, underripe blackberry, and thats just the nose of this big beer. Gently woody, something vaguely rum and sugarcane. I swear I find roasted sweet potatoes when I let it sit in my mouth. REally well enjoyed.

Standard barleywine body and head, deep murky brown and non existent. Aromas of dark fruit plums, and raisins, with some hop notes showing up as well. Flavor of big, super sweet caramel malts, the hops show mid way through and have a slight bitterness in the finish. Overall it isnt my favorite barleywine but it is a good beer thats worth a try.

It’s always refreshing to get a quality barleywine after not having had one in awhile. It sort of rekindles the taste for the style that one enjoys so much. This did that for me. While not the worlds greatest barleywine, it’s tasty. The only drawback was the $$$$ I spent at Perry’s getting it. The aroma was sweet caramel, dried fruits (light and dark) and alcohol. Body is cloudy, orange/brown (rusty) color with a small, quick melting head. Flavor is distinctly sweet, huge malts, medium piney/fruity hops, alcohol and toffee. Mouthfeel is sticky and medium thick. Finish is a little hot.

thick and sweet is spot on for this one. also a touch on the dark side. little-no carbonation. slick full bodied, warming alcohol. a great after dinner sipper, but by the end the sweet was just starting to become too much. very good beer, if you want a beer bordering on liquor. i was in the mood for this tonight, but still prefer more balanced BWs.

This is a big beer. A sweet beer. It pours out a murky brown colour with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet malt, maple sugar, and a hint of hops. The flavour can be sickening sweet at times, and pure heaven at others. The sweet malt certainly comes through as well as the heavy dose of hops.

375 ml green "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12.0%. Cloudy dark reddish brown colour, big to moderate off-white to beige head. Strong and intense sweetish aroma of dark malts, brown sugar and caramel, hints of oak and fortified wine. The flavour is very sweet and malty, with the same elements as the aroma - but it barely escapes the "cloying" category by a partial balance of American hops (Nugget, Cascade and Centennial). Not an "easy drinking" beer, but who expects a barley wine to be? A great "sipping beer", on a day when your "sweet tooth" needs to be satisfied.

Bottle from SL. Pour was orange-brown in color, nice off-white head and lacing, steady small bubble presence. The aroma was caramel, toffee, resinous pines, and alcohol. The flavor followed suit with some honey and vanilla underneath, full alcohol finish, short of the DFH wallop and sweetness, but if told they studied under Sam for this one, I'd believe it. Mouthfeel was just short of sticky, but malty indeed, somewhat hot, full bodied.

Pours with a cloud, amber body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a hint of candy sugar, a little spice and a nice hoppy bitterness. A nice overall Barleywine. Full bodied and slightly warming.

Cool looking 12.7 ounce corked bottle. Pours a brown/amber color with a very nice initial tan head that settles to a foamy ring. Aroma is caramel, molasses, dark fruits and alcohol. The flavor is sweet raisins and figs, some caramel and molasses with quite a bit of hop bitterness, especially towards the finish. The beer is a little hot, I'm not going to say the alcohol is hidden, but at 12% that's kind of expected and I like the fact that there is never a dull moment here. Definitely a sipper but I like it.
