Long Strange Tripel is of the golden variety using pale and munich malts along with a portion of malted wheat. The beer gains strength from the addition of dextrose in the boil. The noble hop Styrian Goldings provides a subtle 30 IBUs of hop character.

The sample I got popped and fizzed like New Year’s champagne, so if you get this in a bottle, open with care - and have a towel handy. It comes out of the bottle a clear, bright solar yellow with a thick, fluffy snow-white head that leaves very generous lacing. Strong, yeasty aroma has apple and pear notes and a hint of malt. Fruity, yeasty flavor fills the mouth with apple, pear, and a hint of butterscotch, as well as a whisper of hoppy bitterness. Lively texture has good body and fizz, leaving a fruity, tingly, slightly yeasty and malty finish. Keep your eyes peeled for this one.

Pours a cloudy golden amber color with a foamy two finger eggshell colored head. Aroma is sweet, fruity mixed with some Belgian yeast with a touch of earthy hops. Taste is dry and tart with the yeast starting and finish the flavor profile. In the middle, there is tree fruit, notably apricot and a bit of pear, some spice and some earthy, bittering hops. Mouthfeel is clean and a bit astringent. First time trying a tripel and I'm sure it won't be the last. An interesting style.

A cloudy golden colored beer with a big sudsy textured white head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. A well formed ringlet and persistent cap are left. Yeast, sour notes wuth some pepper in the nose. More of the same in the tasting with a grainy addition. Light, easy to drink.

Pours out like any average beer. The aroma is very lightly of fruit and yeast. The mouthfeel is nothing special I just get the hops. The flavor is very disappointing for the cost. I think Bradoon has a taste towards bitter. Only buy what James says to buy.

I think this is pretty fantastic. It looks great, smells great, tastes great, just the right amount of pepper and funk in the mix. Great job, Boulevard!

    750ml bottle -

A very, very solid beer and nicely priced at $9.00 for a big-boy. A very spicy smelling tripel, with copious amounts fruit and alcohol found within. The yeast makes an appearance as does toasted sugar. Bubblegum jumps out on my palate right off the bat. Table sugar, orange juice, some light hoppage, alcohol and spices. Very nicely balanced. Evervesence is medium-high, so it does have a bit of prickliness to it. Alcohol adds to it. Very nice.

Orange hued pour with a charge of carbonation and a thick white head. Strong aromas of musty bananas, typical for the style but plain. Very pleasant banana and cloves meld with slight black pepper and a strong malt finish. Nice Flavors for an American made tripel, this works well on a warm spring evening.

Smokestack Series - Long Strange Tripel Sampled on 12/21/2012. This Triple pours a slightly hazy orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is fruity and sweet, yeasty and estery. A medium bodied triple. The malts are fruity and sweet with a touch of apricot and peach. The hops are herbal and earthy. A hint of pineapple/tropical as well. Decent carbonation. Yeasty and fruity. Very drinkable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

interesting. fruity and sweet. spicy from the yeast. just hints of farmhouse goodness. not a tripel that stands out from the crowd per se, but a very solid example of the style for sure.

I'm not an expert, and not a Boulevard fan. I didn't care for the fruity aroma every time I took a drink. I really don't like fruity tasting beers, but this one wasn't god awful. Nice color for an unfiltered beer but color doen't make a beer. I don't think I could recommend it, but if you like Boulevard beers, you might as well give it a go.
