The romantic term "barley wine" is used for the beers with an alcoholic content similar to the one of the wine. Of color bronze, the Antares Barley Wine is a hard licorosa beer and maltose, with an intense frutado accent, that remembers white grapes to us, originating of leavenings.

750 mL courtesy of kp. Pours deep gold with copper core and tall off white head. The aroma is a bit spicy and mixes with the additional notes of apricot and mildly musty sweet malts. The taste begins with slick sweet malts and sweet apricots. It then gets a bit more fruity with apricot skin and apple skin tartness mixing with plenty of malty and fruity sweetness. The hops seem to show up with some late addition to the boil spice hop flavor and a dash of earthiness.

330 ml bottle from Carrefour in Recoleta, B.A. Nice appearance, at least, a pour of clear and dark copper with a lively white head. Lacing as well! As for the aroma, it had alcohol, caramel, maybe some hop. Flavour was not exactly BW, more like a not so good strong ale. Alcohol, caramel, and some other confusing elements. Average mouthfeel. Sweet finish. Aftertaste not particularly pleasing. Poorly done, messy, but I was not expecting much and so was not disappointed.

Ah a barleywine from Argentina, cant wait! Sarcasm aside.....An amber apperance with a little head. The aroma is citrus, hay, and corn. The flavor is a bit sweet with some caramel and grassy notes. The citrus is showing through again. I’m not sure what the goal of this beer was but it is hands down the worst barleywine I’ve had.

Labeled at Simpatico. I was warned that this was diesel fuel in a bottle instead of a barleywine, but I’m going to attempt this with an open mind. Pours a mostly clear amber with perhaps a slight chill haze. The head is large, white and fairly long-lasting. Deserves good points on the appearance. Moving on to the aroma. A little green apple and grass in the aroma, a little bruised apple in there as well. It tastes a bit like rubbing alcohol, though. I’m assuming these are fusels, but they’re off the charts here. This is like a bad malt liquor.

Hazy pale amber with a small disappearing white foam. Vinous and rather alcoholic aroma of yellow fruit, biscuits, oranges, dough and wood. Alcohol, orange-peels and crackers in the flavour. Full-bodied, Long warming finish of alcohol, and yellow plums with hoppy notes of grass and orange-peels. Too bad that the booze is to evident.

Bottled@10%. Amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is hay and raisins along with some bready hints. Flavour is very much alcohol, some grass and mild fruits in a rather unpleasant mix. Unbalanced.
