dense black with dark caramel edges and a thick, foamy, light tan head that builds as the beer disapears. Smooth, creamy, almost like a more drinkable whiskey. weird!

Sampled on draft at WVB in Morgantown. Appearance was deep brown to black in color, nice initial head, solid lacing. The aroma was light coffee and licorice playing off each other. The flavor was astringent, under attenuated, coffee, very faint chocolate, and faint licorice. Lacked some of the depth and richness offered by the style, more licorice depth, some dark fruits, etc.... The qualities led me to immediately ask the server if West Viriginia had a 6.0 or comparable brewing law, which indeed s/he said it did. That explained the disappointment with this, as it is hard to compete against peers in this style at only 6%.
