The beer pours a murky brown color with an off-white cap that disappears quickly. Lots of hop in the aroma, some weak grass, and a hint of caramel. Average mouthfeel. Flavor is caramel and tart berries, some yeast, and grains.

My review numbers are NOT based on my experience, but on the average numbers-- Please continue reading for an explanation! Cloudy, rusty brown color with an inch's tan head and persistent lace cap. Though it's been kept very carefully, I can't deny that my bottle is six years old, and I suspect it didn't age well. The rush of foam when I opened it made me suspect infection, and the tart aroma-- perhaps a bit too acidic?-- didn't help. Some tartness being welcome and some tartness being infection, I press on. There's sweet, but also vegetal. The initial flavor is sweet and tart, followed by a rush of lingering kola bitter. No, I don't think this is right. This one is spoiled, alas. I will post my review, but it's not fair to base my numbers on my experience, so I'm going with the previously-established average for this beer.

Pours into the glass a clear, dark reddish colour which is slightly muddy with an off white head. Aroma is slightly sour, and rasiny. Maybe a bit prunish. Taste is sour as well. Interesting taste, not a typical amber. Not too biscuity, very smooth and creamy. Kind of sweet apple notes, very fruity. Overall another pleasent brew from Magic Hat.

Comes out of the tap a dark, warm, barely translucent brown with a decent tan head. Aroma is not strong but is malty and surprisingly hoppy with hints of yeast and cinnamon. Flavor is strongly hoppy, more like an IPA than an amber ale, with a malty undertone and a touch of spice. Smooth, tingly texture leaves a hoppy but not too bitter finish.

Deep auburn- brown body, with a thin off white head. Aroma of toasted caramel malts, with a faint hop presence. Flavor of sweet, burnt malts, some hop bitterness in the finish. Overall it is o.k., but a bit heavy on the caramel.

Now a Autumn seasonal from Magic Hat - part of the Night of the Living Dead 12 pack. Pours a clear dark amber with a nice head and very good lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of slightly sweet malts, a citrus-sourness, and pine and grapefruit hops. Taste is rich with the slightly sourness and maltiness upfront then a good dose of pine hops and bitter for an amber. Nice brew - sweet label. For its style, very good.

Presentation: It was poured from a Brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: It has a deep amber colored body with some visible carbonation and very good clarity. On top sits a modest light tan head that hangs on well and makes some nice spotty lace on the glass. Smell: The aroma has good strong pine and citrus hops with notes of grapefruit and lemon. Taste/Mouth feel: It has a solid, rich malty base with very solid and pleasant citrus hop notes throughout. The hop bitterness builds towards the finish and lingers a bit before it slowly fades off the tongue. It has a solid medium to full body with a smooth yet lively texture and nice carbonation. Notes: Overall it is a very solid brew and quite enjoyable.

Bottle pour is amber red with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is very hoppy, all grapefruit and pinecones. The taste is an extremely balanced mix of sweet malts and citrusy hops. This is very refreshing and easily sessionable. The mouthfeel is thin and it is highly carbonated. However, it is a nice beer. I wonder why this is a winter seasonal, as it seems more geared towards the summer.

Aroma on this offering is of malty sweetness as well as roasted malt and caramelization with some burnt overtones. Appearance is a rich and dark burgundy in color with a full head on top that is light-tan to brown in color and is well carbonated leaving fuzzy and rocky lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is light-bodied and damned tasty with tons of caramel malt character and balance that showcases complexity of the style. Flavor is of sweet malt, caramel, toffee, some vanilla, as well as some sweet malt with not much of a hoppy-bitter backbone with an aftertaste that is almost dessert-like with the caramelization and has a finish that is well-rounded and very wet-like with roasted malt character and creamy nuttiness but does offer some sizeable levels of bittering hops. Recommended.

Pretty good amber, largly due to the above-average hop kick for the style. Pours an amber/copper color with foamy head. Aroma is mostly of hops--citrus and pine. Taste is likewise hoppy, bitter with little malt backbone.
