JLS Release #16: Imperial Porter ~ for summer you ask? Why the hell not! This is not your average porter, this is not Mocha Porter. This is a hugh moutful of malt and hops. It has notes of bitter rich chocolate and hints of tar. A new hop variety called Summit was used to give it the perfect hop balance. This Porter is the Creme de la Creme! Unfiltered, Unfined, Uncompromised. Imperial Porter is brewed with two row pale, munich, dark crystal, chocolate and black malts; and 100% Summit hops. Original Gravity @ 18.7 degrees plato, Finishing Gravity @ 4.75 degrees plato, IBU's around 60!

Thick brown beer with thick brown foamy head. You can smell the licorice and coffee in it. There is a 7.7 Abv in it but can taste it at all and the taste is smooth with no bitterness.

I really was expecting more from this with it being a Rogue beer and an Imperial Porter, however I found it to be more of an Imperial mess. Avery dark brown pour with a brown creamy head, the coffee and chocolate aromas are quite weak, but the alcohol is not. Flavour is tending towards the sweet barleywine style rather than a porter.

I guess I was expecting something a little more bold and robust... it was OK, but i wasn't blown away by it. Poured nicely - a medium/dark - with almost no head. Great lacing, but overall it just didn't deliver as I was expecting.

Poured this from the ceramic bottle with the stopper-top. Pricey beer - but worth the trip. This is the second Rogue Imp that i have tried. This porter pours a nice, opaque brown with definate sweet notes of smokey malt and a slight hint of chocolate. Mocha sweet on the palate balanced by a spicy bananna and nutmeg. Very smooth for a porter, vell balanced. Finish is clean, with a not so noticible hint of sweet tobbaco, orange, molases and nutmeg. Lacing is light. This has made the top of my list for a favorite porter.

One of my overall favorites. A hardcore beer. Smooth and crisp for a porter...very clean finish. Dark brown-copper color....decent carbonation with mocha head. Not too hoppy nor bitter...like a porter should be. It's always tough paying this kind of price, but worth it if splitting with a friend or something.

is the new Summit hop not enough to balance. this beer was ok but smaller than i was expecting. Marin's, Full Sail's, & Gonzo are all quite a bit better. Needs more IBUs and body, but the choclatey aroma and roasted flavor is quite nice. Definitely not worth the price for the ceramic 750, though.

Pours out in a really dark brown colour with a small beige foam. Dryish aroma of pepper and dark chocolate with that familiar cracker-like Rouge note. Also picked up notes of nuts and cocoa. Nearly full-bodied with strong notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, crackers, black pepper and mild alcohol. Long bitter finish of cocoa, nuts, grass, alcohol and crackers.

Nice brown cap with a very dark brown body. First sip just blew my mind, so very tasty and yum yum yummy. Flavour is rich and full . malts are toasted to burnt with mild coffee, bitter to milk chocolate(depending on sip), strawberries and raisin bran muffins. Aroma is mild but complex hot chocolate, muffins, coffee. Thank god not a single trace of west coast hops only some mildly bitter herbal hops come out. The 8.2% is undetectable. I swear I’m getting faint traces of watermelon jolly ranchers. Mouth feel is silky smooth and seems to coat your mouth and throat in a soft blanket of love. This is by far the best I’ve had from the XS series no other one even comes close.

Poured out a very large medium tan head that neared an inch and that was from the last half of a bottle. Retention goes quickly to a skim with decent messy lacing. Super dark brown (which does lighten as the glass thins) in colour. Aroma: milk chocolate and dry cocoa, vanilla, oak, fake cherry that is weak on the 'fake' side, so complex! The flavour is excellent - how, after numerous Rogue XS overpriced beers have they finally came up with a superior beer; creamy chocolate, vanilla, unknown fruit, coffee (very faint, thank god), a bit of herbal hops. The mouth feel is amazingly smooth and soft, full bodied, sometimes there is notable strong bitterness on the finish. Wow! Finally, an excellent above expectation XS beer from Rogue -easily the best of the entire series up to this point. Even at a retarded 23$ a bottle, I may get more. Best just before warm.***I have to say, at a very room temperature, the bitterness and hops come out.... so, don't wait that long!***

This pours a rich opaque sable with a fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is strong and like mocha with some smokiness. Flavor is mainly of roast coffee with a smoky undertone and hints of unsweetened chocolate. Smooth, silky texture leaves a chocolaty but not sweet aftertaste.
