This ain't your Dad's malt liquor" - Brewmaster John Maier. After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the First Father's Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fathers Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance. Dad's is brewed with Harrington and Klages malts, Flaked Corn, Crystal Hops, Free Range Coastal Water, and Czech Pils Yeast. Available in the spring of 2005 in the classic 22-ounce Rogue micropiece. Measurements: 17 degrees Plato, IBU 25, Apparent Attenuation 77, Lovibond 10 degrees. No Chemicals, Additives, or Preservatives

I wasn't surprised by the contents of this bottle until I skimmed through the other reviews. I was given this bottle with a sticker on the cap that read "STOUT," so when it poured like motor oil, I was not surprised at all. However, there is nothing golden about this beer at all..It is absolutely nothing like malt liquor or any kind of lager that I have ever had. It is dark, dark brown with a light cap of head. There isn't much in the aroma. The flavor is like creamy chocolate, and a soda-like mouthfeel. Like drinking a rootbeer float made with chocolate ice cream. This is very, very, very dry. Not exactly an enjoyable beer, and very glad there was a bunch of people to split it with. I am not quite sure what happened here, but it seems that perhaps the correct beer was not in this bottle.

A clear day golden colored beer. Small creamy textured, white head rises above. Settles fairly quickly but the film and to a much less extent, a thin ringlet are impressive enough. Sweet, grainy aroma. A medium bodied, well carbonated smooth bodied beer makes this by those aspects a good drink. The tasting is all about sweet mash. Not much hops, but I’m okay with this.

Not one of my favorites by Rogue either. Was good for a lager..err, malt liquor...stronger than most, a little darker too. Not quite amber, but a dark golden-light copper color. A little on the hoppier side as well. I guess it was worth the try, but not for the price, IMO.

the corn and yeast make this a rather unique, if not incredible beer. worth a try, but i drank it with mixed results. better than i thought it would be...weird sweet aftertaste (good)...lacking in body.

Bottle: Poured a golden color beer with a nice white foamy head with good carbonation but no lacing. Aroma of sweet malt is not the most interesting but surely not as shocking as most malt liquor I have tried. Taste is also dominated by some sweet pils-type malt with no noticeable presence or corn or any other adjunct. I thought alcohol was very well hidden overall. While this is not something I would seek out on a regular basis it was definitely better then expected.

Assuming this would not be a grand beer, I still felt compelled to grab a bottle of this malt likka. Sparkling yellow pour with a decent sized white head and sticky lacing. Smells of sugary sweet pale malt and light adjuncts. Creamy for a lager, and overly sweet with a hint of high octane alcohol. Flavor is grainy and fairly sweet. Adjunct power along with a grassy/spicy hop characteristic. In the end it's still a malt liquor, worth trying once.

Color is a typical amber, though more orange than the average lager. Smell is not strong and fairly malty, not very impressive. Flavor is all right, malty with a good alcohol zing to it, not complex. Texture is fairly smooth but has an edge. Not Rogue's best, but I'm sure it tastes better than most malt liquors.

Pours a very slightly hazy deep yellow with a tight foamy head that leaves nice tight lacing. Good carbonation. Aroma is slightly sweet malts - an earthiness with those malts - and a little hops. Taste is very smooth for a strong lager with a nice maltiness that is not overdone and a very small hops finish. It is very balanced and one of the best strong lagers I've had.

i gave it an extra overall point just because its ROGUE. other than that, it poured a blury blonde. it also has a light fluffy big head that sticks to the side. a light body. it has a wheaty taste.

Pours the usual golden color with some slight amberness to it. The aroma was pretty corn-like, light alcohol. The flavor was thick corny pale lager with no noticeable alcohol. Mouthfeel was moderate, sweet, little acidic touch to it. Reminded me of DFH's Liquor De Malt. If these things weren't such liver wasters, a side-by-side runoff would be thrilling (not really).
