Light coloured German ale whose style was named after the city Cologn (Koln) where it was first brewed. It is a rather simple beer with lightly fruity aromas and a delicate hoppy fragrance. The beer has a pronounced malty taste with a subtle bitter aftertaste.

A clear golden beer with a thick foamy white head. The aroma was citrusy hops, with some cereal malty hints. The flavour was thin and rather bland. There was some malt character on the tongue, but it was quickly forgotten. This is a not so great beer from a great brewery.

Presented in the appropriate glassware, large foamy head. Very pale colour. Fairly good carbonation with a more sticky than clean mouthfeel. Aroma offers some interesting notes, but nothing spectacular. Hard to distinguish any real hop character. Flavour is quite one-dimensional and lends nothing more than refreshment. I suppose this is more characterstic of the style however. In my limited experience with kolsch, I'd insist this beer a decent rendition of the often overlooked style. No doubt I would have enjoyed it more in warmer weather. As indifferent a beer I found it, I was quite happy to have had it nevertheless.
