Goose Island Imperial Brown Goose

I guess this is different then the bottle version according to ratebeer, but I'm not really sure. On draught at the Wrigleyville Goose Island location. Pours a dark muddy reddish brown in a small sniffer. Noticeable alcohol upfront on the nose. Some sweetness. Caramel and apples on the aroma as well. TAste is mildly hoppy, sweet with toffee and cookie like flavas. Some bourbon all around in the mouthfeel. Plenty of malt in this beer, but an incredibly well balanced brew.

how did i get to try this..Hans..by Gentleman .. .lots of bourbon and other sweet malts .. maybe slightly overdone, hold the sauce .. . pretty mellow .. . pours a dark tan, good foam ring .. . lots of bourbon and burning and burnt sugar... tastes like burning...not really, a good brew...

This beer is everything wrong with bourbon barrel aging. Overdone. The flavor was bourbon. It was hard to discern the beer underneath. A beautiful pour, though...full head and nice lacing, but somehow a bit flat in the mouthfeel. Just meh...but a big thanks to eaglefan538, my best bud, for sharing!

This one has a very strong bourbon aroma and flavor, but it’s not overpowering. It could do wiht a little less carbonation, but overall, not a bad bourbon beer.

Thanks to eagle for this one. Poured a dark brown color thin lacing. Aroma was strong bourbon and woodyness. Flavor was woody malts and bourbon. Really could taste the bourbon in it. Good beer would have been great it the bourbon was toned down a little.

Re-rate, Jan 09, 2006 batch courtesy of aracauna. Much the same as my first experience, a bit overdone with the bourbon, only some chocolate notes detectable from the base beer. High carbaontion after these years, amazing. Some roast and oak underneath it all. Ratings slipped a little from the novelty of the first rating. Original rating: A nice treat (2006 version), poured a deep brown color, slight mahoganey edges, decent head and retention. Lacing was somewhat weak, but this thing had enough carbonation to hold the head. The aroma was bourbon and oak. The flavor was dark malts, bourbon, cedar, and a touch of some maple notes. This thing was a little over-run by the bourbon character, along with cedar and oak, while the base brown ale character was too hidden. Nonetheless, this was pretty enjoyable. Good carbonation for anything that was "aged."

Poured a reddish amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of melon, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, floral hops, and alcohol. Taste of citrus fruits, some more bourbon, toffee, caramel malts, toasted dough, nuts, and some alcohol in the finish.

This strong ale pours a medium brown color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is brown sugar and molasses. A medium to full bodied ale. Malts are fruity and sweet, lots of brown sugar and molasses. Hops are earthy. Nice balance. Very smooth tasting. This is a big beer. Lots of raisins and plums, with a nice touch of vanilla and wood. Very nice sipping beer. Big creamy mouthfeel. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
