Our Scotch-style ale, named from Norse mythology, combines the heritage and tartan of our brew team. The roasted barley and chocolate malt lend a bold flavor to this delicious dark beer. Its increased hop level is a modest departure from a true Scotch-style ale. We hope you agree this is a beer worthy of the name Tasgall, "Cauldron of the Gods."

This one has been elusive (been on my wish list for two years.) This brew hasn't been reviewed in three years? Oh well - It pours a deep ruby brown with a nice cream colored head and nice lacing throughout. Big initial malty aroma with chocolate and toasted malts coming through along with a slight brown sugar and a touch of smokiness then some hops - more than anticipated. Taste is velvety smooth and creamy with the high abv well-hidden, with all the sweet, chocolate and toasted maltiness coming in the front followed by some butterscotch then a touch of smoke and a very slight bit of hops. Another one off the wish list - and it was damn tasty.

A very nice surprise from another friend in the homebrew club. Slightly smoky and scotch ale yeast character mingle with loads of malt in the aroma, deeper brown with a touch of foam. Bigger, malty mouthfeel, soft but slightly minerally. Big and malty with excellecnt Scotch ale character. This would make a great winter warmer.

The aroma is of roasty goodness with some chocolate coming through as well with maybe so hoppy bitter and some slight coffee. The appearance is a deep, rich mahogany-chestnut that glows when held to the light with a nice head on top that is medium-sized and diminishes to a light lacing that sticks to the glass and is a light-tan in color. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and thick with some nice roasty complexity as well as some surprising hoppy balance with a palate that is wet-like and not all that bad. The flavor is of robust roastiness with some caramel overtones as well as some faint chocolate and maybe dark raisins with an aftertaste that is malty and alcoholic with a finish that is pretty smooth that offers some dryness with some definite alcohol noticeable with some slight burning sensations. Overall, an interesting brew here for sure and with the addition of some bitter hoppiness, this makes for a nice beer to experience and enjoy; not a bad offering here for sure.

Good aroma, with a definite malt presence, some slight hops are there and maybe some dark fruits. Slight alcohol in the background. Pours nice, a dark brown with plentiful off-white head. Nice enough mouthfeel, especially for an 8% brew. Very good flavor, with alcohol well hidden. Decent maltiness, some fruit and hop presence. I'd recommend this.

Dark brown body with good carbonation. Good, malty aroma with a touch of alcohol. The flavor is full of caramel and toffee maltiness. The "increased hop level" is still mild compared to the malty rampage, and the bitterness and aroma lent by the hops is just barely more of a contribution than what it provided by the alcohol. Very drinkable given it’s size.

A dark brown appearance. A peanut, caramel, and raisin aroma. The flavor is quite malty with some grapes and other dark fruit. Some alcohol does show in the finish. Overall this was a great beer.
