This 500 year old Belgian style wheat beer became nearly extinct until the late 1970’s when Pierre Celis revived a languishing brewery in Hoegaarden and began brewing WITBIER again.  Ours is a true Wit, brewed with 50% un-malted wheat then delicately spiced at the end of the boil with dried Curacao Bitter Orange Peel, Sweet Orange Peel and Coriander.  A slight lactic sourness is induced in secondary fermentation to balance the Wit’s creaminess and make it a tart, smooth, quenching summer brew.

This poured a cloudy yellow color with a moderate head. The aroma contains citrus and coriander. The flavor is citrus, cloves, and biscuit. Overall a very nice witbier!

Color is a somewhat cloudy amber gold with a thick but not persistent head. Aroma is strong, very wheaty and malty, with strong lemon hints. Flavor is rich, wheaty-malty, with some hop edge to it. Refreshing, smooth, this is a great beer for late summer and early fall.

Big creamy white head with an appropriately cloudy and pale yellow body. Nose is faint hint of coriander there. The taste is a bit sour up front, crisp wheat, light coriander, tastes more like lemon peel than orange peel though. Estery.
