The first in the John Sleeman Presents series, Sleeman Fine Porter is straight from page 68 of the family recipe book. The original Porters were the drink of the working class in 1700s England where they were seen to be more nutritious. Take a sip of history today and experience this brew just as George Sleeman presented it back in the 1800s. Tasting Notes: Fine Porter's rich, deep mahogany is topped by a rich tan foam. You will appreciate the presence of dark chocolate, coffee and licorice aromas. Fine Porter boasts fully rounded roast malt flavours and its long finish is true to the original style.

For a brewery that boasts as much as Sleeman does, I would expect their products to go above and beyond, but unfortunately that fall as flat as the macros. This is a medium to dark brown pour with a light brown head that laces well. Toasted malt and caramel make up the bulk of the aroma with light hints of dark chocolate joining those to make up the flavour. Nothing that you need to try in this lifetime.

Pours an average foamy brownish head. Weak lacing. Has a clean coppery/brown appearance. Light roasted malt aromas as well as raisins and mild toffee notes. Flavours of toffee, light roasted malts, nuts, and toasty malts too. Some hints of caramel. Slight crisp bitterness on the palate. Smooth, fairly creamy, bubbly and drying mouthfeel. Tingling sensation. Medium bodied. Nice and easy going down. Good stuff.

Surprisinglyt, the beers Sleemans aims for the American market aren't much better than the ones that they aim for the Canadian market. This beer is dark like a Porter should be.....but the aroma is a bit week to me. Not as much roasted malt as I would expect. The flavour is alright, a good balance, but nothing overpowering

It was the rustic label that drew my attention to this brew. Dark brown body holds a roasted mix of chocolate, malty, caramel taste. The nose was more subtle than the flavoring. If there was any bittering, flowery hops I didn't get it. But, despite this this is an inexpensive drinkable representation of the Porter ales.

This is a fine porter poured a rich dark brown with foamy tan head. There was a generous amount of lacing. The flavor was sweet malt with just a hint of bitter aftertaste that was a nice contrast to the sweet. I enoyed this a great deal on a humid day in July. I can only imagine how nice it will be in Nov. by the stove with some salted walnuts and the Leafs on TV

Dark red brown with a beige head. Rich sweet malt aroma with an overtone that I can’t identify or define but which I always associate with North American beers.. Liquorice and alcohol in the taste followed by an ashy bitter finish. Drinkable porter. Note: this was labeled as Sleeman Porter 68.

This porter pours a deep amber color from a 11.5oz bottle. Medium sized tan head. Aroma is mild, some bad coffee, some roasty malt and a hint of brown sugar. A light bodied porter. Malts are slightly roasty, with some cheap coffee and cheap chocolate flavor. Hops are kind of earthy, well sort of dirt like more than anything else. Lively carbonation. Has an artificial plasticy aftertaste that is not in any way good. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter and astringent.
