New Holland Phi

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3

Poured a cloudy orange amber color with small head. Aroma was off way off, grapes apple and something not right. Flavor was almost like bad grapes some caramel malts and a few spices which i couldn't pick out. Not a good one.

Boittle from boboski. Pour was orangey with some haze, weak head. The aroma was funky off grapes, grainey malts, other light fruits. Flavor was funky sour grapes, pears, some sweet caramel and bready/grainy malts. Spicing was very light but didn't add any value to the overall beer. Mouthfeel was a bit dull. Another New Holland bomb. Thanks for the opportunity, though, Jason - it was fun and interesting anyway.

Based on some quick research I believe this Phi is a 2005 edition, the abv listed on the bottle is 9%. This one appears to be a strong ale, not a baltic porter that it is currently listed under. Pours a nice medium orange/burnt yellow with a medium white head and tons of lacing followed by strong carbonation. Aroma is sour and fruity. Very sweet to the taste buds at first which soon becomes sour and acidic. Tangy and fruity as well this ale is very interesting. The alcohol is well hidden. Rich on the palate with a sour finish that is dry. Perplexing and rather tasty.

Dark brown brew with a solid roasted malt nose. First impression is its a little too sweet. But there is plenty of flavors going on so you dont dwell on that. roasted malt add a little bitterness but it only acts to balance the sweetness. Some milk chocolate notes with a touch of a light roast coffee. Unfortunately they all are just barely keeping this brew in check.

Brownish, but very transparent with light. A slight wash of head. A little aroma of nearly burnt chocolate mud covered wood, like muddy boots on a plywood floor, and it also smells like an unfinished, still rock, basement floor in a new house. Big time bitter rubber glove dust flavor alongside some chocolate covered cherries. Really weird weird beer that seems fairly similar to the dragons milk.

Cola colored, with a small foamy head. This beer has a nice, roasty tartness. This is a slightly different take on a porter and I liked it

Poured a dark prune color with a very thin light tan head. Roasty, chocolate, berries, cherries, and alcohol in the aroma. The taste too, is roasty, with some fresh cherry skins, more mocha and chocolate, with just a bit of alcohol. Nice, though the taste did not live up to the nose.
