Each and every fall, we experience a coastal experience in San Diego known as the "Super High Tide." This happens later in the Fall Season when the tidal swings reach a range of about 8 feet in difference between low and high tides. When this happens, there are days when the tide just gets too high and flattens out the surf. The lineups shut down and surfers are left to wait until the High Tide recedes. While waiting for the tides to shift in your favor, might we suggest a High Tide IPA? Brewed only once each year to coincide with the Hop Harvest in Yakima Washington, High Tide IPA is made with 180 lbs of Fresh Hops per batch that are plucked from the vines and sent straight to our brewery. We skip the whole drying and processing stage which means the hops are ultra fresh and full of flavors we can't normally get. Like grapes, Hops are only harvested one time each year and as such, we make what we can when we get them. The recipe is very simple and basic with an emphasis on the variety of hops we select each year. Lately, we have selected Centennial and Chinook hops for our High Tide IPA. We used Centennial at the end of the boil and Chinook for the Dry Hopping. Now that we have brewed High Tide, we will sit and wait for the ultra High Tides of Fall to arrive knowing full well that we have sufficient stocks of great beer to get us through the flattest of sessions. We hope you'll stock up too. from my notes: On tap. Golden, hoppy, minimal head, not a lot of aroma. Very crisp, fresh, slightly piney. Decent, but not amazing. I'll have to try it again.

1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle, as Port Brewing High Tide Fresh Hop IPA, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy golden colour, fairly pale for an American IPA. Big to moderate white head. Lovely aroma of floral and fruity hops (Centennial and Simcoe or Chinook) , notes of peaches and tropical fruits. The flavour is resinous and grapefruity, initially relatively smooth and inviting, but with an aggressive and nearly medicinal bitterness in the aftertaste. Relatively light bodied and dry.

more grassy in the aroma than most, and has a hop profile that i wouldn't have placed if not on the bottle....centenials and simcoe. the beer grew on me as it went down. started ok, finished nice, though port has set their own bar pretty high. lingering grassy bittersweet finish. unique and very good. not quite great.

It pours hazy-golden with thick dark-white head and copious lacing. An aroma of sweet malts, hops, pine, grapefruit, grass, oranges, and choice spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of sweet malts, hops, grapefruit, grass, oranges, and spiciness. Excellent!

Bottle from BOLTZ7555. The aroma is that nice west coast hoppy smell I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of, lemon, grapefruit, orange peel. Dirty gold color. Big fluffy off-white head with lots of sticky lacing. Crisp and bitter hop flavors that pick up where the aroma leaves off. Overall a bit herbal with some soft malt underneath the citrusy hops. Really juicy, drinkable and refreshing. Well done. Thanks Jason!

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear light golden yellow with a frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is strong bright fruity piney hops with a touch of bready malts in the background.

The flavor is all hops - it is strong resiney tarry bitter hops. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with soft watery carbonation.
Overall, I remember liking this better the first time I had it. This one is an unbalanced hop bomb - which is fine, but I'm not caring for the hop flavors as much this time around. I remember it tasting fruitier and pinier.

Sampled on draft at the Toronado, SF. Pours clear gold with an adequate head and nice lacing. Pleasant floral/spice aroma. Nicely bitter, spicy, piney, peppery flavor. Smooth. Wonderful IPA.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours out in a hazy pale orange colour with a small white foam. Big and fresh hop aroma of orange-peels, lychee, pine-needles, grass and grapefruit. medium-bodied with a fresh and lively hop notes of lychee, grapefruit, resin and wet grass with subtle undertones of Seville oranges. Long bitter and crisp finish of grapefruit, orange-peels, flowers and grass. Wonderful "in-you-face" IPA.

Poured a cloudy orange color with huge head good lacing. Aroma was lots and lots of grapefruit and some spices. Flavor was much the same grapefuit won out on the flavors spices totally hidden. Good solid IPA.

Thanks for eaglefan538 for sharing. Golden yellow color with decent head and lacing. Aroma and flavor were super duper grapefruit, like chewing on a grapefruit rind. High bitterness as well. Some syrupy fruity maltiness as well, but man, this is a lot of grapefruit.
