Old Chub is a Scottish strong ale brewed with hearty amounts of seven different malts, including crystal and chocolate malts, and a smidge of US and UK hops. Old Chub also gets a dash of beechwood-smoked grains imported from Bamburg, Germany, home of the world's greatest smoked beers. Old Chub is 8% alcohol by volume. While Dale's satisfies our hop addiction, Old Chub takes care of our deep affections for malt. The cola-colored beer (almost black) features a tan head, a creamy, skim-milk mouthfeel, and rich, semi-sweet flavors of caramel and chocolate throughout. The addition of smoked grains gives Old Chub a delicate kiss of smoke on the finish. Old Chub is the beer equivalent of a lightly smoked single malt scotch, or your favorite dark chocolate. We call it Rocky Mountain Mutha's Milk. People who tell us defiantly, "I don't drink dark beer," often fall deeply in love with Old Chub. We can't blame them.

4pk of small cans from LCBO. Pours a small foamy beige head and has a fairly dark amber brownish appearance. Leaves some decent sticky lacing behind. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of light roasted and caramel malt, some wheaty and earthy notes. Flavours are mostly caramel malt, notes of molasses, dark roasted malt, raisins and plum hints. Somewhat of a sweet finish. Dry mouthfeel.

Canned on 11/3/2014. Pours dark brown with mahogany highlights when held up to light. Foamy light tan head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt and a bit of smoke. Chocolate, smokey roasted malt, creamy. Velvety mouthfeel. This is delicious. I've had several other Scottish Ales including Backwoods Bastard (which I enjoyed a lot), but Oskar Blues seems to emphasize the smokiness of the grains. Really enjoyed this one. Tasty and at $10/six pack, lots of bang for the buck.

Pours out a EXTREMLY dark reddish brown with a nice tan head. The aroma has a sight sweet smell. The mouthfeel is creamy a semi thick. The taste has a note of charlcoal, smoke and coffee.

Big aromas of Dark fruits, sweet caramel malt, and Scotch. A dark brown body with a reddish hue and topped by a small rocky beige head that left good lace. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied. Flavor was dark fruits, sweet bready malts with some lingering alcohol in the finish.

Pours a clear very dark amber black with a one finger head that seems to loft a while. Very little to no carbonation. Aroma is very fruity with hints of roasted malts and yeast. Taste is very roasted with hints of fruits to go along with it. Little bit of a brown sugar sweetness to it. Slight booze burn but you can't taste it. Finishes off sticky. Very, Very good beer.

Pours a dark brown color with a small sized head and minimal lacing. The aroma is light chocolate aroma with pronounced malts and a touch of alcohol. The taste is mild chocolate flavors mixed with sweet malts and a little alcohol. The mouthfeel is full bodied with light carbonation, very smooth.

This was the first time I tasted Old Chub Scotch Ale but the people I was with raved about it before a can was opened. I can see why! It reminded me of the Appalachian Brewing Company's Jolly Scot, but I believe Old Chub is more flavorful! Usually I don't reach for a can but this beer tasted true without the "canny" taste I get with other swill beers. I would definitely seek this beer out when I'm thirsty for a powerful Scotch Ale! P.S. I like porterhouse's nickname for this beer! As I scrolled down to rate Old Chub, those capital letters just jumped out! ;)

This ale pours a deep, almost opaque chocolaty brown with a thick, fine-bubbled, persistent ecru head. Rich aroma is like smoky coffee, what I call "stouty." Flavor has coffee and chocolate tones, and a fair amount of smokiness. Texture is jazzy and edgy.

Bam! The fruitiest scotch ale I've ever had. Smells like scotch, on many levels. Quite sweet, malty, slightly peaty, and then it was empty. Damn. Too sweet for my preferences, but a decent brew, yet again from Oskar Blues. Best canned brewery out there?

Pours a very dark-brown colour with thin light tan head. No retention but leaves a little lace. Sweet fruity aroma with a hint of scotch. This is sweeter than most scotch ales I’ve tried. Caramel and smoke flavour. I like most Oskar Blues but this is just meh?
