In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered up to create Transatlantique Kriek – a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden ale to round out the light-bodied kriek. The resulting beer weighs in at 6.3% alcohol by volume. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly.

Bottle share from T. S. Bubbly light cherry Kool-Aid red pour, tall head, spots of lacing. Light funk and sour cherries upfront then Belgian yeasts, honeysuckle, and berries, more cherries, ending a lightly tart and funked finish.

Pours a clear, reddish chestnut with a fairly thick but not persistent light tan head tinged with red. Malty aroma has a definite cherry note and a subtle woody underpinning. Flavor starts with a malty core and adds sour cherry and oak notes. Rather tasty. Texture is smooth and rather firm, if none too fizzy. Pucker up for a cherry good kriek!

I had this at the Portland Holiday Ale Festival. It was supposed to be a blend of several batches of the Lips of Faith series, but apparently that wasn't available and they had a hand written sign instead. I guess that is fine with me because this was a very nice beer. Poured a crazy pink head and a deep red beer. The picture on this page looks nothing like the red headed beer I had on draft. Very perfumey aroma of nice cherries. Light body, super easy to drink, even my wife would probably like it. Lots of cherry flavor. A nice break between all the other heavy beers I had at the festival.

An interesting beer, I havent had too many of this style so i dont have alot to compare it to. The body was a nice ruby red with a decent cap, not much in the aroma department, some hints of cherry. Flavor has a sour cherry punch with some vinegar and slight funk, not as sweet as many of its style, which was o.k. with me. Overall it was o.k., but nothing worth rushing to pick up.

pours a dark ruby .. . very good foam qualities .. . subtle brew, good for starters, but i was hoping for more kriek .. . light cherry sweetness in the nose, with some pit and skin with a whiff of sugar .. . happy to finally tried this brew.. . the abv is very well hidden. now to find an original 6% bottle.

Pretty steep price that has scared me off several times. Their whole Lips of Faith line is really intriguing for is it $15.00 intriguing? Well, at least for Thanksgiving it was. The beer pours out a beautfiul blood red body with a tight pink head. Reminded me in many ways of their Frambozen in terms of the color. Aroma has a sweet-tart like candy cherry aroma, ascorbic acid meets black cherry ice cream. Flavor has a nice blend of sweet and tart, again list a candy but the tartness level is ratched up a bit. Finishes a bit sweet but with a nice twang to it. A nice kriek to introduce someone to the style. Not overly acidic or tart, but not cloyingly sweet either.

Boon Kriek is pretty good in my book, but nothing special. Rounding it out with a "full bodied golden ale" seemed to be just the ticket. the mouthfeel is smooth, soft, and just right, and it leads right into a seriously complex sour cherry flavor, and bittersweet finish. the aroma is a little underwhelming, just like the dark kriek-especially for how good the flavor is. pours straight up red. i really like both their krieks, but am still questioning the frequency i'll be drinking these rather expensive beers.

Very well made, starts with a red tinted head that is moderately long lasting. Also the aroma of cherry very pronounced. The redish brown tint, makes for an appealing appearance. The slight funk aroma intriques the senses for what flavors will hold for the drinker. The taste exquisitely cherry, tart, with some slight sour feel. The finish is somewhat sweet. The moderately high carbonation, makes for some what of an exquisite mouth feel, this is one of the best parts of the brew. The brew it self very drinkable for any fruit beer drinker/ lambic drinker. Highly recommend this beer/lambic. Cheers!!!

Full disclosure: My first Kriek. It resembles a light cherry-cola in the glass, with a decent head and some lacing. Smells like cherry (duh) but with...wine or some sort of alcohol. Taste, and I have no basis for comparison, is of a dry Zin wine with a lot of sour cherries. It's dry and acerbic on the palate. Mouthfeel is quite bit lighter than what I was expecting, but again I have no basis for comparison. Overall, it's interesting; give it a shot.

I picked this up when I visited Devner for the 03 GABF. Clear, cherry red. If you are quick enough to catch it, there is a pink head. This thing smells real good. Tart cherries. The tast is hard for me to handle. The cherry is there, but the sour hit me like a ton of bricks. I just don’t care too much for it. Light to medium body. Lack of carbonatoin give the preception of a fuller body. This beer may be for some people, but not me.
