No shock this one is retired I get it had age on it. But still held up well. This poured a dark amber color with a beige head. The aroma contains some currants, other dark fruits, and yeast. The flavor was a bit yeasty from the age but didn’t distract much. Some currants, caramel, raisins, and yeasty notes. Nice beer RIP. You should pour yourself out for yourself errr yeah.

Totally clear, dark golden pour. Mammoth head is lasting. Aromas of fresh fruits, apples, pear, berries (raspberries?). Body is light and lively, almost fizzing with carbonation. The berries come in late in the flavor and dance away laughing as they’re chased off by hops. Sort of garden/earthy as it finishes. Not great but I don’t love fruit beers.

Original rating of 6,3,4,3,10 Holy crap this looks like a glass of foamy cran-raspberry juice. I certainly don’t remember this beer looking like this, or smelling like this. Complete 180 on firt whiff as this brew coyly sports notes of barnyard, muffin dough, rotten berry. Not at all appealing to sniff and somewhat shocking. Big, sour, somewhat medicinal flavor of sour grapes, musty, pleasant to drink and the aroma begins to fit and fall into place with temp. This is a wild experiment by DFH and I can’t imaginethey’re still making it in 04....at once berry and flat and slightly astringent. This beer should be applauded for originality, then spit down the drain. But, for some reason, I can’t stop sipping. So sour with grape-skin goodness. Wierd.

An orange glow of amber. The head thinks about showing up but gets lost on the way to the party. Courants are strong about a grainy malt. Dates and nuts make it seem like a breakfast cerelal in alcoholic, liquid form. The carbonation is low, but it’s not flat.

Bottle poured red color...no, not amber reddish brown...I'm talking RED color...with a moderate head that disappeared very quickly. The nose was sweet and alcohol-ish. The first sip I took...I thought, "ok, this is different." With each passing sip, it got worse and worse...to the point where I was downing "cheese filled" Combos to kill the taste (I can't bring myself to pour out beer). Was very sweet, but very bitter. eaglefan described it as beet/berry juice...I was thinking more like cranberry juice gone bad mixed with cheap wine. I don't know what a "currant" taste like, but I'm not thinking it goes well with beer. I guess with Dogfish's "originality", you win some and you lose some...this is a loss. Belgian Strong Ale? Seriously?

Poured a dark purple, darker than Abita's Purple Haze. No head, nothing. No lacing, nothing. Aroma was of berries and who knows what else. Flavor was like beet juice and berry juice blended together. No thanks. If it wasn't bought in a beer store and if it didn't say beer on it, then I would have never known it was anything more than what I just described. (I guess that means the alcohol hid well under the nastiness, for whatever that's worth.) Blah.

Gold color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet. Currents and oranges. A medium bodied fruit/golden ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy and mild. The currents are fruity without being to sweet or too tart. Nicely balanced. Finish is very clean. Nice winter seasonal. The 7% alcohol is not noticeable. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

clear golden color, sweet, with I what I’d guess is a currant flavor (not familiar with them). This is a very enjoyable beer to drink.

I hated this the first time around. The second time through, I really enjoyed this one. I am not sure about the fruit beer designation. This seems to be a light APA with some fruit notes. Pours from the bottle with a dark gold and orange color. A few bubbles quickly rise to the top and there is almost no head. The currant taste is strong at first. Then you can also detect some hops citrus. The aroma is currants with flowers and oranges. Also has a slight smell of red wine.

I've had this from both bottle and draft, and each time it poured with a grapejuice red/purple hue, almost like a Lindemann's or some other sort of fruited lambic. The draft had more head, although neither was too heavy in this department. Dry to the palate, almost like a dry red wine, cassis/fruited flavor comes through. Body is medium to slightly heavy. Not my favorite from DFH, but quite enjoyable.

I was not impressed with this at all. Has a mild cloudy golden hue with a brief dusting of white caps. Maybe some dark fruits in the aroma. It had a real bland and skunky feel to the body, like sour grapes and rotten milk. blahh.
