Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) will celebrate its 15th anniversary on September 6, 2003. In recognition of this anniversary, GLBC will release a specialty brew called Anniversary Ale that will be available throughout September in a new 4-pack package at local grocers and on tap at taverns, including GLBC's brewpub. Anniversary Ale is a Belgian Trippel ale that is pale golden in color with mild fruity and spicy characteristics and a slightly sweet flavor that lends itself to a strong, crisp finish. The specialty craft brew is the strongest beer to be bottled and packaged by GLBC with an alcohol by volume of 9.5%.

Orange gold color. Medium white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and spicy with a touch of must. Touch of alcohol as well. A medium bodied Belgian Triple. Malts are fruity and sweet, fairly spicy. Nice flavors of banana, peach, apricot, clove, orange and must. Slight touch of sourness as well. Nicely balanced, very smooth. This is a nice triple, complex and tasty. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

Pale orange, with a candy sweetness. This was too sweet and thick for me. Perhaps with the right food (spicy?) it would work.

A fake Belgian from Cleveland, what a concept. Medium to heavy bodied, golden to a deep yellow in color, very little head for this style – but that is probably this beer’s only downfall. I had this one from tap, and it is possible that the beer lost its head, but other qualities shown through. Flavor was very nice with the usual clove/citrus overtones and that very pleasant Belgian sweetness, which in this beer’s case was a little less subtle than in the brews it imitates, but still very nice.

This Trippel pours with a golden body topped by a thick white fizzy head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly sour yet slightly sweet and lemony with strong yeasty notes and a touch of spice. The flavor is sweet and fruity (lemons and other citrus fruits) with yeasty notes, a touch of spice and a slight tomato character. Medium to full bodied, surprisingly smooth and slightly warming.

Poured a clear golden color with a large bubbly white head. Fruity aroma of lemon, and I thought I smelled an olive scent somewhere here as well? Smooth taste of tropical fruits, with a lively mouthfeel.
