Pours a cloudy reddish-mahogany with a off-white head that fades to a thin ring. Nice aromas of caramel and amber malts, resinous hops, orange peel, and grains. Taste is similarly resinous, with more citrus, moderately sweet amber malt, and cereal grains. You can taste the oatmeal, and it certainly adds a nice dimension to the mouthfeel, resulting in some lush, creamy textures. Body is a bit over medium, with ample carbonation and a pleasant bitterness in the finish. Solid beer, I dig this one a little more than Eagle Claw Fist. Overall, solid Imperial Red worth grabbing again.

Comes out of the bottle a clear dark sepia with a fairly thick and persistent light tan head. Malty aroma has a strong overtone of caramel and apple, and is fairly sweet. Robust flavor has strong fruity and caramel notes plus a surprising hoppy tone and a subtle undertone of malt. Caramel sweetness nicely balances the hoppy bitterness. Firm, smooth, slightly syrupy texture leaves a sweet, fruity, hoppy finish and a persistent tingle. Geoff Dale, you've got my vote in 2016! ;)

This was a little too sweet for me. Lots going on with the flavor.....almost like a Belgian. Based on their double/strong brown's that I tried, was expecting something closer and as smooth. Because of the complexity, the feel was a bit heavy. Definitely for sipping here. Always new strong stuff coming out from Clown Shoes....and liking pretty much them all. This is worth the sample....just don't think I will again with so much out there.

Amber is on the label yes, but 10% = definitely a strong ale. The cool thing about this brew is that even though it was Imperial in every way, it didn't lose the carmel toffee malt and citrus hop balance, just amplified it. Would love to have this brewery fresh. This sample was two months old and was surprisingly good. I didn't know it was 10% til after...figured 7.5-8% from the beer itself.

A dark mahogany colored beer with a big light beige head. There was good retention on the head. Some light film and a thin ringlet are what are left behind. Burned caramel in the nose. Nice dance of that same burnt caramel and light citric hops in the tasting. Medium bodied, smooth and bold alcohol presence.
