i'm calling this an old ale only because that's what the brewer is calling's actually a bourbon stout/scotch ale hybrid, and whoda thunk it would be this stinking good. THE best SN beer I've ever had. you can smell and taste the bourbon, but it is subtle in its vanilla & oak character. the stout comes thorough just enough as well to make a far better beer than the scotch ale alone. even though that beer is 3/4 of the total, it is not the dominant factor in aroma or flavor. smooth, expertly blended...aroma and flavor of vanilla, oak, bourbon, chocolate, and a touch of sweet malt, peet, and hops. after a week (that's right...a week!) in the growler, it may have been even better. more chocolate comes out. kinda reminded me of a beer close to old viscosity in it's complexity, with a touch of bourbon. great beer! bottle this guys!!!
