Well..it's good news. Pours expected black, with a thin low tan head ring line thing with some lacing. Aroma is roasted hop. Mouth is good - kind of a tangy chocolate thang. Flavor is quite as expected with typical java choco notes blah blah blah but nothing to write home about, all around good and an interesting presentation.

11.2oz bottle. Pours an opaque black with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is chocolate malts, some sharp tart vinous fruits, black licorice and a little vanilla and roast.

The flavor is smooth lactic chocolate malts and vanilla with a bit of slightly tart fruit leading to a bitter roasty finish. The alcohol is surprisingly well hidden. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with creamy carbonation and a bit of a watery texture.

Overall, a pretty well balanced big beer with a lot of complexity. The tart fruitiness seemed a bit out of place to me and was very distracting.

black as night pour with a dense thick chocolate head. complex malted chocolate, roasted grain, candy aroma. thick smooth body - hides the 13% dangerousy well. a little more bitterness in the flavor, dark fruits, chocolate, hint of molasses. a very good beer falling just short of blow your socks off status.

Good Lord, is all I can say. This thing pours a thick, syrupy black that is hard to describe. Kinda scared me. After reading the label I was even more apprehensive, 100 IBU, and 160 EBC! The first taste made me wrinkle up my nose. But from that point on.....heaven. I can't believe the complexity, the richness, and the flavor. I like in spite of the IBU's. Will go buy more.

A nicely done beer and although it didn’t quite live up to the hype, it was an above average beer and very enjoyable. The beer pours out a mostly black body, soapy tan head with some large bubbles popping up here and there. The head didn’t have much of a lasting impression. Aroma is light dark chocolate, some roasted malt, candi sugar with some light tartness to it. Body has some of the same character as the aroma with some light leather and tobacco notes too. A really nice sipper and glad to have a chance to share it.

Bottle: pours a solid black viscous sultry black with a 5cm sticky tan cap that will not go away. Smells of bitter chocolate with roasty husk and smoked toffee tones, light grassyness. Soft carbonation In the mouth the hopping bitterness is subdued but it is there and lingers on and mixes well with warming alcohol which both sit below the thick and almost chewy malts....then this rum and coke citrus complexity steps builds to the rich wet, complex exiler finish. I’ve tasted imperials similar to this but I’ve never tasted better.

"This beer pours blacker than black" I'm not sure what that constitutes but this beer sure is black (and expensive). The aroma is typical of a good Imperial Stout in that it is all about the chocolate and roasted malt. The flavour is a smooth concoction of chocolate, coffee, and a hint of dark fruit.

On draught at Brasserie V, poured a pitch black body with a brown foam head. Deep aromas of figs in syrup with well roasted malt and warm alcohol. Rich and smooth but a surprisingly light wine-like palate. Flavors are dense and roasty-sweet with rich dark chocolate, coffee, raisins, toffee and plums with a red-wine accent. Ends full, strong and bitter. An unusual Imperial Stout in that its Belgian character is quite evident - adding to, rather than detracting from, the experience.

Bottle from Knightly Spirits. This pours out black in color with a big fluffy tan head. Coffee, chocolate, yeast, as well as some dark fruit character, plums and figs, in the aroma. Flavor pretty much follows suit with all the same flavors picked up with the addition of some bitter piney hops. A bit roasty but very slick and smooth drinking, especially for such a big brew. Very little of the 13% alcohol noticed. Excellent beer. A nice evening sipper.
