Brewed since the 13th Century, these malty lagers are still some of the biggest and most sophisticated beers around. Bock is the German word for "billy goat" and pictures of goats graze the labels on many bocks and double bocks. We shied away from the goats on our label, but we certainly didn’t shy away from the use of malted barley in this beer. We use an enormous amount of malted barley, half a pound per bottle, to brew this intensely rich lager. Its deep mahogany color and velvet smooth flavor is a testament to the beer’s high quality two-row malted barley. Samuel Adams Double Bock was first brewed 20 years ago as the first of our Samuel Adams seasonal offerings, and it is now one of our most acclaimed beers. Double Bock became one the first big beers to be brewed here in the US, and we are now happy to offer it year round.

Pours out a nice dark copper color with a nice white head. The aroma is pretty plain and light. The mouthfeel is thick and rich. The flavor is malt, malt and did I mention malt ? This is a really fine bock.

pours a golden dark brown with a red hue, moderate carbonation with about medium sized head that dissipated quickly, very light lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet with no real hoppy bite, mostly a very clean smell. The taste is hops which comes through way more than I expected. Slight caramel notes. The mouth feel is moderate body and goes down with weird after taste.

An excellent example of the venerable German style. Clear pour, ruby in colour with a thin off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, fruit, and spices, almost a seasonal dopplebock. Flavour is slightly sweet to start, but finishes with a bitter kick.

It pours a dark amber & burnt-orange with a thick white-orange head and fairly copious lace. An aroma of caramelized barley malts, faint hops, citrus, and light spices. The mouthfeel is pretty thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange, light raisin, bread and yeast, alcohol, and spices. It's flavorful, although watery.

Very nice caramel and sweet malts in the aroma. Some chocolate and toffee as well. Nice pour with a dark tan with hints of ruby red. A nice thick head with plenty of lacing sits atop this very nice bock. Good mouthfeel with a sweet malty flavor. Some hints of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, toffee.... there is a lot going on. A very slight bite of alcohol, but finishs smooth.

Just want to start off by saying Bocks are usually not my favorite kind of beer, but I wanted to try this one. Dark brown pour with malts and caramel hitting the nose. Beer tasted ok, my friend who loves Bocks did really enjoy this. I am trying to get a taste for this type of beer.

From the Sammy A Imperial Series. Double Bock starts out with a 1/2 inch light tan conglomeration of suds sitting on top of a mahogany liquid that appears to be somewhat hazy. Aromas reflect dry hops and spice. On the buds, you'll first notice a low key sweetness with a dry cloying finish. Flavors include a bold hop character, honey, light brown sugar, coriander, alcohol, whiskey and dishwater. Hate to say it, but S.A. Double Bock was not as sweet as I had expected. Didn't care for it too much, as the I felt it was a bit soapy, mouthfeel/flavor wise. Even with all of that going on.

Among the very best bocks that I've had - anywhere - bar none. Deep mahogany color, but lacking any appreciable head. Excellent lacing, though. Very malty. My only issue is that bocks usually leave me with a slight headache for some reason.

Dark brown pour. Malt with a bit of roasted nuts. Smell and Taste. Initial taste of malt with some dark fruit is quickly led to a path of roasted malt and a pleasant, but bitter aftertaste. Fairly full mouthfeel. An experience for your taste buds. Well done. Need to try again.

Nice thin creamy head. Friendly yeasty aroma. Strong bock initial flavors. Wew, much stronger and meaner than their normal double bock! Alky is certainly apparent. Decent carbonation. Color is orange red brown. Medicinal coarse alky laced finish.
