Modeled on the beers brewed for the long sea voyage from England to India, our India Pale Ale unites a strong malt backbone with a bitter and aromatic finish. Hopped at 2 pounds per barrel with Horizons, Simcoes and Amarillos, our IPA is fully prepared for the long journey from the slopes to the hot tub.

Let's assume that this is what the Cactus Club chain is BC is offering up as "Epic IPA"; the menu offered little or no information as to the origins. Clear amber pour, petite white head. Decent enough aroma, lightly floral and citrus, with an adequate mouthfeel. Flavour not bad, bitter enough. Sessionable.

Pours rather hazy brown, good flavor, but not so IPA'ish that it sears out your tonsils. If you happen to be in an area where this is available, sure buy it and enjoy.

Average on the front end in appearance and aroma - nothing special, but nothing hateful either - requisite citrusy hoppiness and hazy orange color. Thin - veeeery thin in the mouth. Not what I was expecting. Flavor was a bit flat as well.

the recipe or quality of this beer must have changed over the last two or three years (as of 12/08 the last review is from 2006!)...i wouldn't call this beer weak, thin, or english style. it pours/looks like you're standard ipa, with a great, inviting citrus & pine aroma. nothing super complex in the beer, but the flavor is good. nice balance, with a lean towards the hops, medium bodied. it actually reminds me of Stone's ipa, just to a lesser degree. good, but not that good. i'll get it again. better than their 395 IPA. 10/10-lackluster the last couple times, including this time in a can. downgrade from 4 to 3.7

This IPA pours a medium amber color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is piney and citrusy (orange and grapefruit), some caramel. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are caramel and sweet. Hops are piney and grapefruity. More hops in the aroma than in the flavor. Its more of an English style IPA, but still has a nice hop presence. A mild to medium bitter IPA. Malt sweetness is balanced by some nice juicy hops. Very drinkable IPA. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours a beautiful amber color with a thin head. The smell is pleasant and slightly sweet. Tastes a little bitter, with a citrusy aftertaste. Not nearly as strong tasting as I would have expected an IPA to taste. The biggest disappointment is the rather thin mouthfeel. Otherwise, an ok beer. 7-6-07: No Way. This beer is too flat and it really isn't strong enough to be called an IPA.

I was rather surprised with the Mammoth Amber Ale (um, Alt?), and actually went into this beer with a few basic expectations. And while I can't say that I'm wholly disappointed with this..., on the hand, it really doesn't strike me as anything special, either. Just kinda "there", to be honest.

Immediately reminded me of the few beers I've had from Idaho's Grand Teton Brewing Company: a distinct emphasis on the malt bill over the hops, come hell-or-heigh-water. And while that's not a bad thing, by any means, I'm not fully convinced that it works for this particular beer.

It's tasty, for sure. I dig the toasted grain in the mouthfeel. And the drying finish, and easy poundability (esp. since this clocks in at around 7-something-% ABV). In short, I think it's dandy drinker....

....but as something of another Amber Ale. IPA? Nope. Not buying it. Not from this beer. Sorry. It's hop profile is just not big and agressive enough for me to see this as an IPA (esp. for a West Coast IPA). It's hop bill is much too shy for this to even come across as an American Pale Ale, yet along a type of beer that would have been once intended to last a 3-4 month ocean voyage from England to India (pre-Suez).

Not a bad drinker. Not bad at all, really. But while I'm not much of a style nazi, I tend to think that it really should have a more agressive hop profile for being labeled an IPA.....

Ths IPA pours with an amber body topped by a thin head with some lacing. The aroma is full of grapefruit zest with a little pine, a touch of sweet malt and notes of flowers. The flavor is slightly sweet yet bitter with notes of grapefruit and pine. Seems a little weak, but still not bad. Light to medium bodied and smooth.
