Known as "Three Threads" or "Entire" Porter it became England's first national beer in 1722. It was called porter because of its popularity with that group of laborers. Bitter Root Brewing brews this rich dark ale with a hint of peat-smoked malt as a salute to English brewers long forgotten.

Pour is black with a dark, thick tan head. Aroma of smoke, coffee, roasted, burnt malt and a little caramel and dark chocolate. Taste is much the same. The coffee and smoke are a little much for me but seem to mellow out by the end of the bottle (that, or I am getting numb to it by then). Either way, not my kind of porter.

Poured out a small tan head that fades all too quick, leaves some minor lacing. Brew is a nice dark mahogany. The aroma is very very malty with a nice sweetness to the nose. Sweet toffee, roasted malts, milk chocolate, weak coffee, creamy almond paste, the faintest hint of hops. I have to say that it has been a very long time since I've enjoyed the aroma of a porter this much. The taste, however, is not up to the same level of goodness. Comes across with an immediate sour note - I have had this sitting since the summer so maybe it just is not fresh anymore, if so, my bad. Slight hop note early on, middle of the road roasted malts, weak coffee and weaker chocolate, if any. It is drinkable though. Thinner than it should be, tart sourness that doesn't quite fit, finishes dry and malty.

Bottle courtesy of kyzr. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of roasted malt, raisins, molasses, brown sugar. Tastes of roasted malt, pepper, some nice bitterness on the finish.

This poured a black apperance with a beige head. The flavor contains malted milk balls, chocolate, and coffee. The flavor contained the same. The malted milk ball flavor was rather interesting. The palate was a bit thin for a porter but still a nice beer.

220z Bomber, 06/03. Looks like a porter - dark, almost black pour, bright highlights at the edges, little head, some sticky lace. Aromas are chocolatey malt, sweet, not much hop presence on the nose. Taste is not outstanding, but quite good with subtle notes of chocolate, molasses, burnt, tar. Body could be more substantial, but finish has a nice bitterness and dryness. Decent stuff, tough to find outside of the brewery.
