Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours clear deep amber with tan head and lots of cobweb lacing. The aroma is sweet muted molasses, caramel, grainy malts and notes of dark fruity esters. The taste feels thin with full on dark fruitiness from dates, prunes and plums along with lesser amounts of caramel and molasses. This beer is sweet and only has a faint note of roasted and burnt malts. Very enjoyable.

A porter, eh? Not from where I am standing. I was under the impression that a porter was dark, to the point of being borderline stout. Utenos doesn't fit that description. The hazelnut colored fluid has no head what-so-ever coming from the bottle pour. Scents and tastes of candy sugar, caramel, and some low key spice are mixed in with the strong malt & syrupy character of this brand. Making it seem more like a Belgian dubbel than a porter. Hell, even Baltica Porter from Russia gets the style spot on. I think Utenos and the Lituanians need to go back and research what a porter needs to be.

Pours a dark mahogany color with light burnt orange head and thick lace. Fragrant aroma of citrus, berries, spices, molasses, and rich malts. The mouthfeel is light, although smooth. Flavors of caramel malts, molasses, citrus, hops, light spices, and sweetness of berries. Good!

I was in Franklin's General Store in Hyattsville, MD and ran across some Eastern European brews. I had never dabbled much with Eastern European brews, so I decided to pick some up. This Utenos Porter was one of them.

When I poured the beer into my pint glass it had a huge, dirty cream head on it. It was a good finger - finger and a half thick. I left the room for barely a minute and when I got back there was nothing. That was a little disappointing. It looked like a flat Coca Cola. The color of the beer is dark brown with ruby hints to it. You can still see light through it so it's not the darkest of porters. The aroma is very malty with a hint of fig and alcohol. I probably would have liked the aroma more if there wasn't that alcoholic smell to it. Still it's not bad.

I like porters, probably more than the next guy. Unfortunately this one is a little watery for my liking. It lacks pretty much any carbonation at all. The flavor is pretty good though and probably the best part of this beer. There's a malt and raisin bread like flavor to this one. The back end has a bit of cocoa bitterness to it as well. Very well done. You can definitely taste the alcohol content, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. So many beers now are high in alcohol content, but mask it with other flavorings. It's good to taste that alcohol every once and a while.

Overall, it's not that bad and something I definitely recommend trying once purely for introduce your tastebuds to something from Lithuania.

Darkish ruby red colour, big beige creamy head. Aroma of plums, syrup and caramel. Some weak alcohol also noteable. Flavour is smoked caramel malts, with smoke/ashes in the finish and aftertaste. Alcohol completely hidden in the flavour. Once it gets a bit warmer, the flavour get some tarry notes also to the smoke/ashes. Good Baltic porter in my opinion, though the aroma was a bit more like a sweet dunkel. The palate is great, though a bit sticky after a while.

courtesy of oh6gdx - pours a dark brown colour with a reddish hue; solid but irregular beige head and a persistent lace; toasted aroma of black chocolate; very sweet and medium-bodied; aftertaste of butterscotch with a touch of alcohol; lot of residual sweetness - not exciting at all

My first Baltic experience that I'm aware of, and whereas I can't compare this one with others of its ilk, I have to say it wasn't a bad beer, and especially for its price as an import. Poured a nice full-headed, deep dark brown. Decent flavor, and finished well. I'll try this again, and also some other Baltics so I can get to know the type.

Poured into an English pint glass. Sort of a chestnut brown and dark amber hues. Had a big beige head, but it all faded. Sweet carmel nut aroma with some molasses. Kind of fudgey. Pretty sweet upfront with carmel toffe character. Palate is rich and farily carbonated. Finished overly sweet, but the bitterness is evident as well. Far from a top baltic porter, but still fits the style.

Dark red with big sticky beige foam. Sourish aroma of coffee and fish food. Full flavour of roasted malt, toffee and fishfood. Quite thin body. Long aftertaste of coffee and again, a sourish note of more fishfood. Maybe I need to sample this one again because it didn¨t taste fresh.
