Poured beautiful deep apple cider brown with nice foamy head and good lacing. Wonderful aroma of sweet fruit. Mouthfeel is sticky. Flavor was mild malty, fruity (like oranges?) taste with a little hops thrown in...but WICKED sour. I haven't had much of this style...maybe just not my thing.

I'm an alt fan. I've had my share of them. I've had quite a few in Dusseldorf. And this, my friends, is no true altbier. Number one in the style? That's a bad joke! Sure, it had the malty and hoppy balance, but the malt flavor was funky and semi-sour. Caramel came through with some breadiness and brown sugar. Poorly attenuated, some diacetyl? The hop finish wasn't "noble" tasting (ie. American hops?). Pour was the best part with a nice initial head and deep ruby-amber color. Lacing was good, but the head thinned out fast (but was still present). Mouthfeel left the mouth feeling squeeky clean - not my cup of tea.

Poured a red amber color with a tinny head. Smelled of strong malts, with a little yeast and hops. Had a roasted taste to it with a little bit bitter aftertaste. Am a huge alt fan and this one was good.

I don't know what exactly the differences are between traditional Altbiers and "Secret" Alts, but if this is considered to be a good example of a Sticke Alt, than color me impressed!

Came to me a stubbie 12-oz bottle, that I emptied into my Weltenberger 0,33L glass. Adequate head production, but that which didn't seem to last too long afterwards. But I did enjoy the body of this beer -- the burned gold seemed to almost glow when held up to the white baqckground of this beer review -- a trick I picked up from my bud Richard.... ;)

More aromatic than what I normally tend to find from Alt's -- or is that simply because I let this beer warm up a bit more than ussual? Either way, an inviting "down-home, earthy, slightly hoppy" aroma, indeed.

But of where this beer really shines is in the flavor profile -- specifically, the cool, dry, and quite workmanlike bitterness. Not in any shape or form like what you would expect to find at O'Brien's (read: IPA's, more IPA's, and even more IPA's), or on-tap in the PacNW (read: American Pale Ales and IPA's)..., and that unto itself is part of the charm of something like this. This sort of beer takes the concept of "big bitterness" (esp. early in the boil) to a whole new (not neccesarily more bitter) world. A very "Germanic" way to introduce a nice amount of hops to what would otherwise be a standard Amber Ale.

But there's the kicker, too. Bottom-fermented, and cold-conditioning, give this beer's overall mouthfeel and dreinkability some serious "ass-kicking" qualities. Very easy to pound this down, even if it's sneaking up on the 6.5%%ABV mark.

Again, I don't knoew what makes this Alt much different than other American Altbiers. But what it does do is please my taste buds, and make me wish I had a sixer in the `fridge... :)

Cheers to Carmen for the sample!

Medium dark brown amber color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is sweet malt and floral hops. A medium bodied alt beer. Malts are fruity and sweet. Lots of orange and cherry flavors. Hops are floral and earthy. Nice balance. Interesting beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, dry and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

This beer poured a slightly reddish/golden color body with a slightly white head that didn't stick around for long. The flavor was sweet and very drinkable. I really enjoyable this beer from Heavyweight, and would recommend others to try it.

Stickenjab has a faint caramel aroma. The beer pours a rich, deep amber coloring with a tall, frothy head. The taste is somewhat caramel/coffee-like and fairly good. There isn't any bitter aftertaste and worth a try.

This brew pours with an amber body topped by a thick head with good lacing. The aroma is sweet and malty with a caramel/toffee notes, a slight fruitiness and a touch of flowers. The flavor is slighlty sweet and malty with a slightly bitter spiciness and a touch of fruit. Medium bodied and smooth.

Poured a reddish amber color with a small off white head. Strong malty, slightly yeasty/bready and hoppy aroma. Some nuts can also be found in the aroma. Roasted, nutty, taste with a strong malt backbone, and a slighty bitter ending. No lacing could be found.
