Blackburne is our biggest beer yet. It’s a colossal stout in honour of the secretive and strange ritual behind every Major League baseball. This beer pours black and opaque with a mocha foam, giving aromas of baker’s chocolate, vanilla and plum. Blackburne is viscous and smooth, saturated with decadent fudge and toffee, and laced with evergreen bitterness that gives way to a warming finish. – Aubrey “Lena” Blackburne is the former player, manager and one-time coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs baseball club who discovered the infamous mud that has been rubbed on every single Major League Baseball since the 1930s. Blackburne rubbing mud is used to remove the polish from freshly made baseballs, allowing them to be thrown properly. The secret location from which the mud is collected remains a mystery to this day.

Small can from LCBO, says No.3 on label. Pours a huge thick frothy and bubbly brownish head and has a deep dark brown coloured appearance. Dirty sticky lacing. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, roasted malt notes. Flavours are sweet and chocolatey, some notes of toffee and roasted malts, a little bit earthy with some coffee in the finish. Medium retention. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good overall.

The beer pours a translucent coca-cola colour when held to strong white light with a creamy generous light brown head which lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, and soy sauce. The moutrhfeel is full bodied, creamy and chalky, with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla with a bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Part of their Triple Play Fan Pack. Pours a dark brown colour with a creamy, big mocha-coloured head that stays quite a nice long time and leaves thick creamy-foamy lacing. Roasted malt aromas with some light dark fruits, maybe more apples, hints of molasses and nuttiness. The taste shows some more burnt malts with some decent hops in the finish to balance things. Mild sweetness, but the bitterness does not let it linger. Nothing much more in the flavours, but that is how an Imperial Stout can be. Goes down nicely with just enough warming.
