During transport overseas, early India Pale Ales were stored in wooden barrels. In these barrels—beer experts suppose—some ales were naturally inoculated with Brettanomyces, a form of wild yeast. Brett IPA plays off this piece of brewing lore by pairing Brettanomyces—a yeast that exhibits itself as ripe fruit rather than strong funk or sourness—with multiple varieties of fruit-forward hops. Aromas of citrus, pineapple, and passion fruit meld into tropical flavors that pair nicely with the beer’s lightly hopped body. Maris Otter, Munich malts, and raw wheat balance the floral barrage of Bravo, Cascade, Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, and Galaxy hops. By finishing with a mix of pleasant bitterness and tropical fruit, Brett IPA ushers brewing history into the present. Grains: Maris Otter, Munich, Raw Wheat. Hops: Amarillo, Bravo, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Galaxy Yeast: Brettanomyces Package Size: 12 oz., Draft Serving Temp: 40-50°F Ideal Within: 6 months

Pours clear topaz with a thick snowy head. Aroma gives up funky, piney, yeasty, and subtle citrus notes. Flavor presents bolder versions of all these, except more emphasis on the hops and tart citrus, and adds a bit of raw malt. It is seriously dank and somewhat bitter on the back end. Texture features fair body and peppy fizz. A distinctively funky IPA for those who like IPAs and sours.
