A MASSIVELY DRY-HOPPED DEEP CRIMSON IPA Pat-ASK-ala? Pata-SKALA? Pa-TASK-a-la? While those in the know favor the third pronunciation, no matter how you say it, this is a unique red IPA. The beer was first brewed in September 2015 to support music and arts education programs in Pataskala, Ohio, where Stone co-founder Greg Koch grew up. People there loved it, so we added the beer to our seasonal lineup. The deep crimson hue is courtesy of a fairly new special German malt variety by BESTMALZ called Red X. Dry-hopped with Mosaic, Cascade and Amarillo hops, this beer is incredibly citrus-forward, rounded out with biscuit and toffee notes. We think you’ll find this red IPA to be quite deliciously satisfying, no matter how you choose to pronounce it. HOP VARIETIES AMARILLO CASCADE MOSAIC

Rated May 2016. 12oz bottle pours with a clear ruby red body that supports a nice tan head. The aroma offers up a blend of light roasted malts, citrus nuanced pine hops and then more thin citrus hops weaving in and out of some earthy tea like hops. Pretty nice. The taste delivers a pleasing load of bitter pine hops that arrive just as a thin roasted maltiness. To midway a citrus hop note softens the malts and pine hops a bit as faint sweet citrus hard candy is noticed in this less than uber fresh sample. Toward the finish a helpful earthy black tea hoppiness helps pull this together and end with yet another flavor facet. Solid beer that seems best really fresh.

Pours clear mahogany with a thick and fluffy buff head. Aroma presents strong, resiny hops plus caramel and a little cinnamon candy. Flavor delivers woody, bitter hops riding caramel, resin and cinnamon notes for a distinctive IPA. Texture features good body and fizz, leading to a woody hop finish that has a slightly spicy caramel underpinning. Drink for a good cause!

Pour a deep reddish copper color with a light tan head that leaves some impressive lacing. Citrus, caramel malt and earthy hops on the nose. The malt leads the flavors, followed by some citrus, a bit of spice and some earthy hops. Mouthfeel is full and almost has a creaminess to it. A very nice Red IPA.

Clear red copper color, tanned lacing foam head. Nice hoppy aroma and bitter taste, lasting long. Great beer and the first one on this trip to US. (Houston 201605)

12 oz bottle. Pours red amber with a huge bubbly creamy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is sweet nutty caramel malts with some fruit and piney hops.

The flavor is sweet nutty caramel malt with some fruit and lots of grassy piney hops with a lot of bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice big hoppy red. The sweetness and bitterness doesn't blend well together.
