This first edition of our Imperial Stout “X” series, incorporates freshly roasted Ethiopian Sidamo beans from our friends and neighbors at The Roasterie. After fermentation is complete and the beer has been crash cooled with the yeast removed, our brewers transfer Imperial Stout into a sanitized stainless tank that has been fitted with bags of coarsely ground coffee beans. At this point, the beer is at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Infusing the coffee at this temperature is similar to the cold toddy method of brewing coffee. The cold toddy method extracts far fewer acids from the coffee resulting in remarkably smooth, yet concentrated flavors. We allow the beer to rest on the coffee for a minimum of 24 hours before removing the beer from the coffee beans. Imperial Stout X – Coffee is not barrel aged. The resulting beer is a marriage of huge, round, chocolate and caramel notes from the base beer, with smooth layers of sweet citrus and floral flavors and aromas from the coffee. Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 10 | Flavor: 10 | Overall: 10

Pours rich coffee sable with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Quality roast coffee dominates the aroma, but lets malty, caramel, woody and chocolate notes peep through. Flavor fills the mouth with first-class coffee, roast malt, semi-sweet chocolate, and subtle caramel and molasses tones - a tsunami of delicious. Firm, viscous body has a robust and persistent fizz - you cal feel this one heading downstairs. X marks the spot for a super beer! I look forward to more in this series.

Pours a very dark brown/ black body. The head is fluffy, medium brown colored head leaves some fair lace. Aromas of dark roast, smoke, bitter coffee, and dark chocolate. Flavors of roast coffee bean, chocolate bar, dark brown sugar, and lots of licorice and anise.

Sampled from magnum bottle. Pours opaque ruby/black-brown with a thin, yet lasting tan head. Aroma is pleasant and dominated by coffee with more subtle dark fruit and caramel-roasted malt in the background. Medium-full bodied and quite drinkable for such a big beer. Balanced towards bitter and pretty clean due to that fact. Still, plenty of roasted malt stout flavors abound. Worth checking out!

750 ml bottle, batch 122314-2, best by 12-2016. Pours dark brown with a huge creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is fudgy chocolate, with vanilla and roast coffee.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malt and vanilla with some acidity and a lot of roast coffee and a bit of alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice coffee imperial stout. Nice chocolate and coffee but a bit harsh with the roast and alcohol. Reminds me a bit of Speedway.
