This refreshing, Pale Ale has been matured over rare Scottish Oak, which hasn't been used in brewing since the Anglo-Spanish wars and the Armada, when huge areas of Scottish forest were felled to build ships. The beer is finished with the addition of sweet gale which grows wild in the Scottish Highlands and was used traditionally as an alternative to imported hops by brewers in Scotland. Crisp aromatic and light, this beer is one for the summer evenings.

    Pours an average size frothy beige head and has a light amber appearance. Lacing is not bad, spotty. Aromas toasty and sweet malts. Notes of caramel malts, earthy and herbal hops. A bit of bitterness. Not the best Innis & Gunn I have ever had.

    Comes in a brown bottle. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a warm frothy cap, good retention and nice creamy lacing. Grainy cereal malt nose with hints of caramel, alcohol and vanilla from the oak. Much of the same for the taste with less of the hints found in the aromas. Fruity notes with the grain, but not really well-balanced. Not really a pale ale. Not really my thing.

    Clear copper colour pour with a typical Innis & Gunn appearance (rasp). Breaded malt and a bit of oak in the aroma. Mouthfeel is thin. Flavour is sweet, vanilla and a bit of oak. Blah, Innis & Gunn disappoints but I'll keep trying for some reason
