As longtime friends, Russian River brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo and our own Brian Grossman are no strangers to brewing experiments. While looking for inspiration for this collaboration, Vinnie and Brian decided to honor the creations of legendary Belgian brewer Yvan De Baets with their own hop-forward American-Belgian mash-up. From complex Belgian-inspired styles to American wild ales and hoppy Double IPA’s, Russian River always pushes boundaries while respecting technique and quality. Co-owners Vinnie and Natalie Cilurzo are longtime friends of Sierra Nevada and they always have a six-pack of Pale Ale in their fridge at home.

Comes out of the growler a clear yellow with a thick and frothy eggshell head. Aroma has fruity, malty and even hoppy notes, plus a hint of butterscotch. Fruity flavor has a pear and apple core, with some bitter woody hops and touches of butterscotch and sweet malt. Texture has average thickness and little fizz, but leaves a nice fruity and slightly hoppy finish. Maybe not great, but worth a fair shake.

A clear golden colored beer with bubbles rising in the body. A three fingered frothy textured, white head rising above. There's some hang time in the head. But a thin ringlet left. Yeasty and candied. Addsome pepper and cardamom spiciness pulling ahead in the yasting. Light and effervescent.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear straw yellow with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is banana bubblegum and spices with some earthiness.
The flavor is sweet bready malts, banana, bubblegum and some spice (pepper, coriander). The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with creamy texture.
Overall, I didn't really care for this one. -

About typical for the style. Aroma of grass, wheat, yeast, with some citrus notes on the end. Slight sour to it. Has that Belgian feel from the beginning. Flavor is sort of like a farmhouse. Semi-cloudy pale yellow appearance. Good to try in this variety pack for the summer season, but not really my cup of tea.

Oddly not as overtly hoppy as the BPA collab w Allagash. Good nose, where the hops come out nicely as it warms. Otherwise a nice if somewhat pedestrain Belgian Blonde ale. Good, but so far my least favorite of the 5. I'm sure it won't be by the end.
