Uinta Brewing Company introduces Cahoots Double Rye IPA, brewed in collaboration with a decorated local homebrewer, Chris Detrick. Uinta developed the idea for an annual limited release brand, one that would rotate in beer style and, more importantly, feature a collaboration recipe. In the summer of 2012, Uinta head brewer Kevin Ely in cahoots with (see what they did there?) Chris Detrick, began the research and development process for Uinta’s first Cahoots. Together, Detrick and Uinta developed a Double Rye IPA, a bigger, bolder, hoppier version of Detrick’s award winning Rye IPA recipe. Two types of malted rye and loads of malted barley combine with CTZ and Chinook hop varities to create this subtly spicy and distinctly hoppy beer. Bold and rich, Cahoots Double Rye IPA is bottle conditioned and has an ABV of 9.4%. Scheduled to hit select shelves in early June, Cahoots is a limited release beer, only 120bbls were brewed.

Bomber. Pours a beautiful clear mahogany with a VERY thick and rather fine-bubbled light tan head that hangs around for a bit and leaves some generous lacing. Though the head is thick, at least the bottle I got didn't fizz like the champagne in the locker room of the team that just won the World Series. Aroma is not particularly strong, but does have tempting hoppy and rye notes. Flavor, though, bursts with rye, hoppy, malty, and subtle caramel and bitter notes. Very satisfying! Smooth, firm texture leaves behind a hoppy and rye finish that will have your lips a-smackin'. Get in cahoots with this 'un!

Spicy rye and hop presence in both the nose and flavor. Pretty big body....medium to full ad juicy. Flavor is a bit malty but with more than ample hops and bitterness, spicy sweet.

Amber copper body, nice creamy head and very solid lacing. Spicy rye, big northwest hop presence, and a touch of caramel. Dry rye feel followed by a soothingly bold bitterness. Very nice offering with just enough rye to satisfy and plenty of fresh hops.
