An 8.3% abv ale that is the first in the annual Canada Day series to not be aged in oak. Strong, sweet and full bodied, we matured this Limited Edition Innis & Gunn over Canadian Black Cherrywood and then finished it before bottling with a touch of maple syrup to give it a sweet, toasty twist.

Jan. 2015: 330 ml clear bottle in cardboard box, from Vinmonopolet. BB July 2014. ABV is 8.3%. Cloudy reddish amber colour, pours fizzy with a small short-lived head, slightly off-white. Sweetish aroma with notes of caramel, raisins and dark dried fruits, notes of "oak" (cherrywood, of course). Sweet flavour, too sweet maybe, loads of caramel, maple syrup and dark dried fruits, also cherrywood, minimal hops. Okay, but probably not something I would buy again.

Fourth I & G of the evening (trying to use up the backlog of 2010-2012 Canada Day 'specials'). Nice looking pour, clear amber with a creamy beige head. Decent aroma, some malt and I guess darker fruits. Flavour was as expected, caramel overpowering whatever else might've been there. Okay mouthfeel. Finish just too sweet. Change the packaging, leave the recipe the same.

Pours a small amount of foamy head. Has an amber appearance with reddish hues. Weak lacing. Aromas of malts, nuts, sweetness. Flavours of dark fruits, raisins, with pretty smooth mild cherry notes. Mouthwarming sensation and somewhat of a tingly mouthfeel. Pretty good but doesn't really seem too focused.

Single from the LCBO, in their usual boxes for their special brews. Second Innis & Gunn of the night. Pours a clean deep amber colour with an off-white head, decent retention and a little lace. The aromas are mild, but pretty complex, changing as it breathes. Starts with dark fruits (plums, dates), then, roasted malts, burnt wood, butterscotch, cherry notes and other fruity malts. The mouthfeel is stuck between wet and syrupy, light and medium-bodied. A little on the sweet side, but not too much to kill things. Lots of the flavours seems like the nose. If there is any maple syrup in this, it is very well-blended. An interesting Scottish beer matured in the Cherrywood. Worth trying, just a little too sweet and syrupy to enjoy more. I think I prefer their original Canadian Oak matured beer.
